I would like to hear y'alls takes on posture at the line. How upright is correct? How much lean (forward) should there be? Just wanted to hear your thoughts.

Hey there Sarge.

As you know I've had somewhat of a personal conquest recently, but my past few practise sessions have been really encouraging. There will be no change in my rather low current scores until at least the start of the summer leagues now - however posture at the line has been one HUGE factor for me and my scores have been really good recently.

I am trying not to lean forward much at all. For the way I currently shoot this serves no purpose. I am not however standing totally erect like a meerkat on guard, but I am certainly more sturdy with a gentle balanced support leg.

For me, lean encourages overall bad technique and Execution, as well as a more unpredictable ball roll.

It's been doing wonders for me and producing a lovely down and in - to which I hope to add some more aggression with time.

Good luck buddy - keep at it! cool thumbsup

6 degrees of spinal tilt....that's how much. Its not much either. Bending too much at the waist causes you to lose leverage at the release and makes it difficult (if not impossible) to maintain balance.

But in addition to that slight spinal tilt you want to be as low as possible (without hurting yourself) and perfectly balanced with perhaps only your arm swinging freely after releasing the ball.

Couple of things to watch out for....rearing up at the line in an effort to put more on the ball, and rearing back.

Yo Sarge,

Think of the great Chinese philosopher, Tony Chen. (Your finish should align your toe, knee and chin...get it...Tony Chen...toe...knee...chin.) livid Reset yourself and try again. When you can swing the ball...HARD...and not loose your balance, you have found the perfect finish position for you.

Sometimes you have to add knee bend and reposition the 'balance leg' to find your best finish position, but this works perfectly.

Once your realize the feeling of a perfectly balanced finish position, you work on an approach that gets you to that finish.

I hope this helps,
