We just had an 848 in our house, house record. 300-279-269.

I think the hardest part about it is hititng 7-8 strikes in a row, 3 games in a row.

I finally got another one tonight. 261-278-279 for 818. It's a four game league and I finished it off with a 258 for 1076. I haven't had the ball come off my hand that good in a very long time. Hopefully I keep on a roll for a while now! smile

That's fantastic Cheetah!!! Don't waste anymore time on "what could have been". You were there tonight, you've probably been close other nights...and you'll be there again.

I wish I'd gotten that close, so do many other bowlers. So glory in your achievement. Don't knock it down by "what ifs". That kind of scoring doesn't deserve such a waste of thought.

At my regular house (it's about 20 years old), we have a wall with 2 large boards full of 300's. I'd say 50+ 300 games. But there have only been 2 800 series, ever. I can't imagine ever even expecting I could possibly shoot an 800 here.

There are usually 5 to 8 -300s and 2 or 3 -800s shot each year, even though we have many higher average bowlers (with multiple 300s). None of the 800s and only 2 of the 300s (that I am aware of) have been shot by women.

Funny thing though, I've probably already used up my once in a lifetime "in the zone" experience during my practice league there..I shot 266, 278 and 279 (823)...of course it was not sanctioned ...but at least I had witnesses! Maybe I'll sign up for an extra lifetime and have it happen during regular league or tournament play! laugh

erin, you have said a few times that you don't respect the 300 anymore. is that only for the lucky stand left throw right bowler? would you respect me if i did it, hitting my mark every time, being consistant with release and speed, making minor adjustments as the game went on? or is it just poopoo on you unless it's 800?

I have been bowling for a long time. When I was in high school, 300 was the thing to shoot. I went to college and I started bowling more competitively, I realized consistency was where it was at. I had to wait until 4th year of college before I shot 700 with a 701. I hit 690 a couple dozen times a year. About 6 weeks after my first 700, I had my first chance at 800. I shot 246 (chopped a 2/4), 299 (**** 10 pin) and it came down to the last game. I missed a 10 pin earlier in the game. I needed the first 2 in the 10th and 8 pins for an 800. Before I shot in the 10th, the lane broke down for about 5 minutes (nothing like icing the kicker). I got the first one. The second ball was one of the best shots I had thrown in a few frames and WHAM, solid 8. 246 again for a nice 791, thank you very litte.

I finally got my first 800 last season. I will remember that night until the day I die. I was throwing the ball well in practice and had the first 3 then a sold 10 pin. I then proceded to take it off the sheet. Next game, I got lazy and left the 6/10 in the first and then went off the sheet again. I was at 569 at the turn. Needless to say I shot 257 for an 826. I had 32 of 36 on the night for a clean night. 2 ten pins, and 2 6/10s. That just so happened to be the night that the Red Sox won the World Series.

This year, I have had a couple of good nights. I have had a couple of 740+ nights. The main thing is when you have a good night going and you leave something, pick it up. They add up at the end of the night.

lol..I'm still lookin for my first 700. Last wed. subbing I started off with a 235,225, and thought this was the night for my 700. BLAH! I shot 169 in my last game. Not to mention 300 has escaped me a few times. I have a handful of 279's....just cant put 12 in a row together. I really have to work on my mental.

Heh, I was really close to gettin' my first 700 last weekend too. 200, 278, 210. Just needed to do somethin' more with the first game.

Yeah, an 800 series is way more of an accomplishment then a 300. While not saying that a 300 isn't an accomplishment...it's far easier then a 800 series. When I bowled my 278 last week, it was a very 'lucky' 278. I had like 4 brooklands or something. I missed in the 8th and it was because I went brookland again. (although I killed the pocket on the next shot.) You can get pretty lucky fairly easily and manage a 300...It's still not easy to do, but you can manage. There's no way that you can get a 800 with getting too many brooklands or taps...you have to be smashing the pocket on almost every single shot to even have a chance.

All these amazing scores are making my head spin. nut Congratulations to everybody who bowled so well! I remember there was a day, a few months back in my junior league where we had three 800s. It was pretty amazing, however I can't remember any scores because I was at the other end of the house, but none of the guys who shot them were over 18.
