It was an interesting experiment. Perhaps if you drill only two holes with zero forward/reverse, parallel side pitches, and oval inserts, so the grip feels the same flipped, you could still benefit from the idea of flipping the ball to use a different pin placement. For example, it looks like 6 and 12 o'clock might offer sufficiently different ball reactions, maybe even strike ball/spare ball.

It's always fun to try new things. I've given the two hole idea a lot of thought in the past. With what I've learned from this experiment, I think what I would like to try this with is two symmetric core junker balls. One with a long pin and one with a short pin. It would be perfect if I could get more of a "ball down" change from flipping the ball than strike/spare. I think a shorter pin may allow for the same change in reaction between 12 and 6 but not be as night and day as it was for this ball. The 12 also had a crazy amount of over/under and hopefully the shorter pin, maybe pin more around 1 o'clock, and possibly symmetric core shape could help fix this. I'll let my PSO know my plans in case anything like that comes in.

Big news regarding the triangle layout for those of you planning to use it in the US Open. The US Open will now restrict the number of balls allowed for the tournament to 8. They will consider a ball with the triangle layout as 6 balls out of your possible 8. That means you will be allowed one ball with triangle, and only two other balls for the event.

For those of you that may have another type of no thumb switch/flip layout, each ball will count as two. So far this is the only change to the rules I know regarding these layouts, but I would expect more to come as the USBC will likely reevaluate other rules regarding any ball with multiple layouts like these.

Last year? Not pretty. No high scores worth posting from 15-16. But good times ahead. smile
