With the tournament having wrapped up yesterday, the link above contains a recap with all of the champions. Notably in this tournament, Matt McNiel became the first three-time Regular All-Events champion, and Anthony LaCaze joined Les Zikes as the only bowlers with championship Eagles in three consecutive years.

I'll be on the lookout for the final low-to-cash.

We bowled the last squads Friday and Saturday. What a humbling experience, I couldn't get anything going. Didn't break 500 in any of the events. Accuracy was the key, missing right the ball wouldn't come back and missing left, your ball took off.

I dunno, league bowlers are simply overmatched on those conditions. I can see why people get frustrated and don't return. As a first time participant, I am considering not returning next year. I bowl out of 3 houses, all oil differently but none prepared me for what I faced in El Paso. There needs to be middle ground, making the conditions that tough hurts morale amongst the participants. Bowling popularity is waning as it is, you are not going to attract more bowlers to the tourney if they continually see and hear people complain about the conditions.

In any case, rant mode off, just needed to vent.

I can understand your frustration goobee, but I think its for the overall benefit of the tournament.

I probably scored very similarly to you this year (1470) and left frustrated, especially after shooting 1700 in my debut last year. Honestly, I think that reality check is absolutely vital for this tournament. It means that it is absolutely impossible to win an eagle, and even highly unlikely that you'll cash, without working with a coach, practicing on sport patterns, learning more about equipment, and developing a cohesive team with a strategy in place.

While typical league bowlers might feel discouraged or even punished, it means that the national championship will showcase the very best in the nation in a way that can not be done with easier conditions. I'd much rather see singles be won with a 793, than see a five way tie for 879 which would absolutely be the case if the conditions were softened.

Just look at Matt McNiel...he's been able to average over 250 for a few years running on those conditions! Imagine if the lane man gave him even just a little help. Furthermore, it makes his accomplishment all the more unbelieveable and special, and I think that's what this tournament deserves. It deserves people being awestruck by the accomplishments of those at the top, and that awe goes away when its just a matter of getting there, lining up, and hoping carry is on your side.

Long story short...I shot 1470, won't come close to cashing in anything, left frustrated and disappointed, and I can't wait for Reno 2016.

I shot a very sad 1355. I didn't expect to go in and shoot out the lights but I sure the heck did not expect embarass myself this badly either. I understand the need to level the playing field but to this degree, it seems excessive. After all, this is an amateur event with mostly moderately skilled bowlers participating. To make the condition overly tough will favor the more skilled bowlers. Maybe I am wrong in my assumption that a 181 average bowler is less skilled than a 225 average bowler.

Where I do agree is that its probably time for a restructuring of the divisions. There probably should be a third division, and even if they didn't want to do that, the classified division should probably be around 210-215.

Yes, a third tier sounds like a good idea. Not sure if they will want to put that kind of effort into it. The brackets are confusing enough as it is.

I would have thought the USBC Open Championships were for the best bowlers, just as the US Open golf tournament is for golfers. But the USBC makes a lot of money as entires climb. I think a third division would be rather confusing, and not really meaningful. In a tournament for the best bowlers, but open to anyone for participation, it seems fine now.

As for conditions, I heard from many very talented bowlers how hard it was, which also speaks to normal, everyday house conditions as much as it does for the Open. PGA Tour golfers don't compete in British Open or US Open course conditions everyday, nobody does. Personally, I thought it was a great idea to have challenging conditions for the highest level tournament. There's hardly any left.

Agree with Steve, shouldn't be a 3rd division. May the best be the best. Hoping to make my debut next year in Reno and take a crack at it myself.

I probably missed a couple of the 300 games, but the USBC posted a list of the year's honor scores (as of July 1) here. It's testimony to the difficulty of the lane conditions this year that no 800 series and only six 300 games were shot.

Neat, I got a check from the USBC. It appears I won a bracket. Was not expecting that. smile
