Thanks wronghander...I've been used to the USBC having a kick-off show on BowlTV where the patterns are revealed, but I was expecting that on Friday, the day before the first squads.

Here Chris Barnes gives a pretty good breakdown. Basically medium lengths and upper medium volumes without much miss room.

And here's an article by five time champion Jeff Richgels, predicting the lowest scores in years:

It'll be interesting to see how Mike Scroggins fares in this tournament. I think the patterns fall right into his wheelhouse and he'll be able to play his straighter line from near the gutter and rely on accuracy.

Hm, interesting read from Jeff Richgels. He is recommending staying away from strong back end flippy balls. It appears I may have to reconsider my Roto Grip Hyper Cell Skid plans.

think about it like this:

amount of volume tells you how strong of a ball to use
length of pattern tells you where to play

you will want more even rolling, controllable pieces to use on these types of patterns
for ME..its a symmetric core, longer pin-pap and i prefer lower grits under polish.
like my EP hybrid, pin down, 5" pin, 1000+polish

Goobee, your IQ Tour Solid was made for conditions like these. It will be absolutely ideal.

Getting excited to give this shot a try before heading down to El Paso end of May. Seems like I have some balls that will work pretty nicely.

Know it is very early, but from looking at graphs and seeing the first stream of competition I will likely use Hyper Cell game 1 of each set to help burn a line in. Then get out my Disturbed, First Blood and IQ Tour Fusion. Was actually thinking of getting rid of the Fusion as I hadn't used it much, but it is controllable and may work.

Will see what happens when I get some practice on the patterns in the coming months.
