That does sound like a really fun league Dennis. I could understand why other people in the center might stop and watch if there are two good bowlers going head-to-head. The 5:1 ratio is a good idea as well. Nice step up from a house shot but not quite a PBA shot. I think we need to see more leagues with that type of ratio.

I agree, svengali. It may be a little tougher for some, but it certainly holds longer.
I barley move for the first 3 games. Once you carve a groove, you can score, too.

What else i find, is that, it is easier for spare shooting. Very few chops. But, mostly single pin spares, which makes it easier. right side spares have been routine on this shot, for me, anyhow.

Tonight's bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

Third game had a "woulda, coulda, shoulda" feel to it, b/c it was possibly in the 180s with better spare shooting, but I'll take the high game of the summer so far, the second game.

Result: 184-216-141=541
Average (21 games): 173
Average for last 9 games: 189
Next week's AVG+1 score: 524

Team won first two games, but then had to hang on for total by three pins, with Jim needing, and getting, two strikes in the 10th third game to save total.

Going into tonight, I was in first place by .07 points.

results:
Gm 1 208, W
Gm 2 190. L
Gm 3 248, W and win series by 2 pins
Gm 4 195, L
Gm 5 234, W. but lost series

So, 7 of 12 match points, and 1075 pins plus 120 cap = 11.95 points for a total of 18.95

I fell out of first by .65 Points to the 4th place bowler and am in second . We bowl each other next, I believe.

Been having some fun in summer league, sanctioned, but no money, just fun. Had some difficult adjusting to conditions, which is not my strong suit yet. In the winter months, they keep the center too warm, and the lanes burn up quickly. With the AC on now, I've had to use finger tape to hold the ball. While a very light THS pattern, it's still not much friction compared to Fall leagues. I've had to become a smoother stroker, which makes for good practice on following through, sometimes I forget.

Better ball preparation as well.

160 - 229 - 145 one night for a 534

223 - 193 - 172 for a 588 this week.

I'm finding out that the really hard part of this sport is transition and preparation. I really need to spend some time with a coach as to what prevents me from getting strong right in the pocket some games, and sloughing off thin right the next. Trying to identify problems to work on for the Fall. But it's nice to have a no pressure league in the summer, just stay in shape and have a couple of beers.

180+169+156=505 on US Open tonight. Really started out badly with poor spare shooting. Four opens in the first 6 frames, 3 of them makeable spares. Fortunately found my line after that and had four strikes in a row and managed a 180.

Second game I started out by alternating strikes & spares in the first 4 frames. Then frames 5 and 6 I left a 7 pin, flat 7 on the left lane and ringing 7 on the right. Covered both of them but tried to make an adjustment in the 7th and missed badly. Left a 1,5,8,9,10. Fortunately I covered it but two opens in the 8th and 9th washed away any chances at a good game.

Third game I found the pocket but left really [censored] leaves. 5-10 and 7-9. Managed a late double when I made a ball change which allowed me to move in a little bit but too little too late.

I actually do like bowling on US Open. It is challenging for sure but it allows me to play on a familiar place in the lane. Straight up 9 board; no bellying it out in the head area. With that line the lack of dry boards to the outside didn't affect me that much. What did affect me was missing inside. Can't do that on this pattern. There's no such thing as hold, at all. Tugging the ball often results in missing the headpin entirely. Did that a few times tonight, although I did get lucky and get a few brooklyns as well.

Looking forward to bowling on this again next week. Really need to be better with my spare shooting and make better adjustments, but I think 600 is a possibility with good Execution.

My Week 8 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

Always a bad one in the bunch, it seems, and, lately, the bad one has been third game.

Result: 202-186-145=533
Average (24 games): 174
Average for last 9 games: 180
Next week's AVG+1 score: 540

Team won first two games and total again; we had a view of the first place team's match, and, as near as we could tell, they only won two points, so tonight should have put us back in the lead by two.
