Tonight's bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

What could be said for tonight was that things were more or less together, for a change. I'd probably would like the 10 pin misses in the third game back, but I had enough strikes to cover for my mistakes, with the result being three deuce games. laugh

Result: 200-211-203=614
Average (15 games): 170
Average for last 9 games: 181
Next week's AVG+1 score: 517

Jim was absent again, but a bowler on the other team was, as well, so it was a wash. The three of us present all had over-average nights, with Lou leading the way with a 701. Team won all eight for the third week in a row.

Ouch, had one of those nights in Match play. Won only first and last games. Bowled next to Center Manager in first game, and lanes were so dry, he apologized. And, they just oiled them an hour before. I said, it's not the oil, but also the pattern, which is getting shorter, and the ultra dry back ends. I really didn't do well.

Well, I did win the first game against the top bowler, as I needed a double in the 10th to win, and got it.

Gm 1 - 199 W Temporarily took over 1st place
Gm 2 - 189 L
Gm 3 - 192 L, and lost series
Gm 4 - 191 L
Gm 5 - 193 W, but lost series

964 total pins = 9.64, plus 4 points out of 12, = 13.64 on the night. Dropped to 5th.

168+157+191=516 on Chameleon tonight. Really had a tough time in the first two games. Tried playing the hold which I was pretty successful at on Saturday, but ball started going high early and that really threw me off. Wasn't expecting that at all. Couldn't make the right adjustments, moved in, tried altering my speed, hand position, etc but that just resulted in the ball not finishing to the pocket. Had one strike in the first game with 2 opens, and two strikes in the 2nd game with 3 opens.

Last game I pulled out my misfit and fared better. Really had to slow down my ball speed and get it off my hand clean though. Went 9/ and then doubled on my two best shots of the night. In the 4th though didn't quite get it off my hand cleanly and managed to leave a pocket 7-9. Threw another double after that, but could have been a 5 bagger. A washout in the 9th cost me a chance at a 200 game. Disappointed in that but I have something to build on for next week.

I mentioned that I Coach the Jr. PBA league at our center. Last night was our first night on the New Scorpion. I could't find any write up on the 47 foot pattern to help the kids. So instead, I bowled on the pattern before league to see how it compared to the older 42 foot length.

I found the pattern to play a lot straighter with less back end as the old one. My old shot was straight up 8-10 at the arrows. This pattern is a little slicker and longer with less friction on the back. So, I moved tighter, that's where I started the kids.

this was so much fun, as the usual swingers were restricted from their norm, and the straight bowlers had to gain an angle to the pocket. I must say, the kids are finally getting the idea of how to move and read the lanes.

Between frames, I meet individually with each pair of lanes, and discuss what the kids are seeing. Some are picking up the slower speed need and the ball release change required. But, I find that a discussion among the bowlers really helps them all understand what to do. They often talk with another bowler and say, "you have to…" or " if you do …". And, that to me is the value of coaching at this level. It's not mechanics now, but it's the helpful interaction among the bowlers to help each other, with some guidance.

All came away positive that next week will be better. Unlike on the Viper, where a couple were discouraged. They are beginning to like oil on the lanes, and that's a good thing.

Tonight's bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

Tonight's highlight for me was definitely the first game, in which I saved what might have been a disaster by first converting the 4-10, and then running the next five strikes for a 206. I still can't help but think it could have been better with better spare shooting, however.

Result: 206-173-171=550
Average (18 games): 172
Average for last 9 games: 185
Next week's AVG+1 score: 522

The team lost points for the first time in four weeks tonight; indeed, it was our first losing night of the season, as we only won the first game.

Summer league finally started for me tonight- last week was technically the first week, but the rest of my team went to the OC last week, so we will have to make up that week. One of the guys on the team ended up working late, so it was just the two of us and a vacant. We managed to win the first game, but lost the next two and total. I've been bowling forty+ years now, so when I do or see something unusual, I have to mention it. Our first game scores were 300-160 (vacancy score)-300. I went on to shoot 769, and my teammate 751. We lost the last 2 games and total, mainly because the team we bowled had some pretty inflated handicaps, and bowled what they were capable of. Oh, well, the first game was nice.

Congrats to you and your teammate Fin, well done.

203+199+224=626 on the burnt up house shot for me tonight. Another week of dry lanes, so during practice after the first shot hooked near the 10 pin, I decided to take out my T-Zone and see how it reacted. I rolled it with moderate speed playing around 8 board and it made a sharp enough move at the break point (thanks AMF SPL!) and then stopped hooking right before it got to the pins. Was nice seeing the ball go from hook to roll, not something I get to see when I'm throwing 18mph to keep the ball on line.

First two games could have been better with better Execution on a few of the shots, also had one open in each of the first two games (1 split and 1 chop on a 2-pin leave). Encouraged by this though. Shot my best series of the summer and didn't have to go through the over-under crap that everyone else on the pair was struggling with all night.

Nice shooting guys

My Match point league results from last night showed, I bowled well, but not good enough to really win.

Gm1 - 207, W
Gm2 - 218, W
Gm3 - 237, L to 268, and lost series by 10 pins
Gm4 - 248, W
Gm5 - 224, L to 226 on a 7 count on a Double fill shot in 10th, but won series

So, 7 of 12 points on the night. 1134 pins, + 135 cap is 1269 and an additional 12.69 points. 19.67 points against tough opponents. I'll take it. But, can kick myself for the 7 count.

Great bowling also Dennis. Nice job staying above 200 for all 5 games.

Had to pre-bowl for Monday since I will be out of town. Thought I'd do better bowling by myself but no such luck. 173,180,176 on Chameleon. Hit the pocket pretty consistently but poor carry. In the middle of the 3rd game I got so frustrated I just took out my T-zone and threw it straight into the brooklyn pocket and that was actually how I got my only double of the day.

I feel like I'm bowling a lot better in this league than my scores represent but my low rev rate and/or my lack of knowledge about equipment is really hurting me. Just don't seem to have the right ball or the right surface to match up to the lane condition.

Thanks svengali. I just received my results and schedule via E-mail. i moved into first by .05 points. And, my schedule for this week will be brutal.

Start with a position game against No2. Then, move to a 2 game set against No3. And, finish with a 2 game set against No4. brutal, brutal, brutal. No one gets a big lead in this league.

But, we should see some good bowling.

Surprising that this head to head league is amassing a crowd of onlookers. People come to watch the games and float from pair to pair to watch tough matches. It's really cool.

A couple of weeks ago, there was a crowd behind one bowler who shot 290-299 in his 2 game set. There was actually applause on every strike. And, he had 22 in a row.

Really fun and good league. Averages range from 190 to 220 for the bowlers on a House tournament shot (5-1 ratio). So, it's competitive.
