The members of Janz's H. I. wrapped up one of the most memorable team appearances ever today by taking the top two spots in Regular Doubles, Tim Damerow and Joe Janz leading with 1,378 and Tim Janz and Andy Bunkoske second with 1,370. Damerow also now leads Regular All-Events with 2,228, and the team's leading 10,363 Team All-Events score is the fourth highest in tournament history.

Janz's H.I.'s lead in Regular Team lasted all of one day, and the record held by Lodge Lanes Too all of about a year, as Motion Plus Lanes (Greenfield, WI) rolled games of 1,269, 1,177, and 1,115 for a 3,561 total, 23 pins better than last year's record score. Chad Kloss paced the team with a 762 set. The group was known as Red Carpet Lanes last year, and this is their second year together.

No, sooner had Motion Plus Lanes established a new record team score than Thanks Ronnie (Orlando, FL) made a challenge to that record; however, they fell short posting the fifth-highest team score in tournament history with 3,514.

The real reason I'm posting is that, earlier in the day, Michael Walker II (28, R, Weedsport, NY) put up the fifth perfect game of the tournament in the team event, making his fifth tournament appearance after taking time off to start his family.

Justin Ziegler (29, R, Corona, CA), a first-time Open Championships participant, rolled games of 289, 257, and 238 to take the Regular Singles lead by a pin with a 784 series.

Less than 15 hours after Justin Ziegler took the Regular Singles lead, Derek Mango (33, R, Cicero, NY) rolled games of 289, 265, and 234 to move past Ziegler into the lead with a 788 series. A ball change in doubles propelled him in his singles effort.

Tanks Sk8. That's a heck of a lineup you have there. I'm sure you guys will do well. Have you bowled the tournament before?

I have not, this is my first time out.

Because I have a tour card it makes it more difficult to find people to bowl with because you can (at least it was the rule) only have so many "tour players" on a team.

Sad thing, if you are in the top 50 in points on the National Tour you cannot bowl Nationals at all. Doesn't make sense.

John Litzelfelner (34, R, Jackson, MO) finished his team event in style, with the 6th total perfect game of the tournament and the 5th in the team event. Litzelfelner said he felt comfortable as the event progressed, even though he traditionally struggles in the event.

Jeff Grego (36, R, Ft. Wayne, IN) posted games of 231, 288, and 279 to move into the Regular Singles lead with a 798 set. A 3 pin was the only thing stopping Grego from posting the first 800 series of the tournament.

Brian Davis Sr. (Peoria, IL) celebrated his 40th birthday by throwing the 7th perfect game of the tournament in his first game of singles, finishing with a 759, his first 700 set in the Open.
