Carl Boldt (22, R, Pontiac, MI) got over the shock & awe of being at the NBS for the first time to post the 32nd 300 game of the Open in singles, just missing the top 10 with a 782 set.

Travis Malakowsky (30, R, Longview, WA) thought he missed an opportunity for an 800 series Wednesday when he missed a 10 pin in the last frame of his team event, but looked up at the scoreboard and saw he had it, with games of 278, 279, and 247 for an 804 set. It was the 7th 800 series of this year's tournament.

Team Turbo Grips (Ft. Wayne, IN) sailed into uncharted scoring waters last night, bowling the first 1,300 team game in the history of the Open Championships with a 1,318. Terry Rohrer led with a 298, followed by George Palumbo (268), Kent Wagner (266), JR Raymond (258) and defending Regular Singles champion Zeke Bayt (228). The team is currently 6th in Regular Team.

I'm sure many of my friends from here know by now, but the team series record wasn't just broken tonight, it was destroyed, as Artistic Expressions 1 (Oklahoma City, OK) posted games of 1,255, 1,188, and 1,277 to become the first team to throw 3,700 (let alone 3,600) at the Open with a 3,720, 159 pins better than the record set by Motion Plus Lanes earlier in the tournament. Ted Pritts led the team (768), followed by Pete Thomas (758), Xeno Garcia (752), Jimmy McMartin (736), and Anthony Lavery-Spahr (706).

Summer Jasmin (25, R, Beckley, WV) got some luck on a wobbly 7 pin to become the 9th woman to roll a perfect game at the Open Championships, doing so in her doubles event. Team USA's Shannon O'Keefe was the last woman to throw a 300 game at the Open, in her team event in 2012 in Baton Rouge.

Anthony Lavery-Spahr drilled my First Blood up last year, he is from Dallas area and a super nice guy. Xeno Garcia and Ted Pritts are both also from Dallas area.

Pretty cool to see some people you know perform really well like that.

Anthony Lavery-Spahr was also one of the leaders for awhile, before getting knocked out in match play, during the PBA Summer Swing that was held in Oklahoma in May. Anthony ended with 2100 + all events!!

Looks like I can expect a check in singles and just missed out on one in doubles. Not a bad first outing for a 200 Average Joe. This year I'm bowling more tournaments, on tougher conditions, and really trying to learn equipment in prep for next year, Really looking forward to El Paso.

Nice job cashing your first time out Champ. Now next year you can concentrate on winning an Eagle. smile

Thanks!

Winning an Eagle is a genuine goal. I've got a long, long, long way to go, but I want to keep improving and put myself in a place to be welcome on a team of that caliber.
