Not a bad set but I'm still bowling uphill lately: 197-258-223---678. It would be nice to get out of the box early on. Started with a Radical Torrid drilled 4" x 4" x 1" (42 x 4" x 21). It just wasn't facing up on the Wednesday long pattern. Switched to my Radical ReaX Version 2 (30 x 4.5" x 65 with a P2 extra hole) at the end of the first game and had much better carry with it until the usual carrydown set in. At least I'm ready for it each week knowing our leadoff bowler uses urethane or plastic each week. I'm used to playing around the carrydown but our opponents just about went ballistic with the 5-7s, 8-10s and 7-10s they left along with a 2-10 or two and several 1-2-4-10s. Who said there isn't any defense in bowling;) Oh yeah: 30 clean frames tonight. I didn't realize this until I looked at the frame by frame after going home. Bowl well Fab 5 and score even better!

Looked at those scores 609-715-651 and thought we'll pick up some points this week. Then realised thats what I think with pocket shots , nice strike, er unlucky to leave the ?pin. Overjoyed to pick up some points but won't believe it untill the scores on the doors.
This game is making me very pessimistic for some reason

Looks like I'll need to use practice sessions for the next two weeks. Our small league is being preempted by a youth tournament for the next two Sundays.

Since I wasn't sure when I was going to get in my set this weekend, I figured I would hustle over after work and open bowl.

Wasn't sure it was the greatest decision at first, but it all worked out.

Best score of the year on lanes and a shot that I didn't like - go figure.

Lanes were tough to figure. Out of bounds at 5 with heavy oil in the middle, but pretty dry on the back. I started practice as usual around 20 out to 10. First shot found the out of bounds and guttered, hmmm. Seemed to find an OK line around 16 to 8, but it wasn't tolerant of misses. Too far outside and it wasn't coming back, too far inside and it didn't come back either. After a couple of washouts and 2-4-10's I figured I needed something else quick.
Tried a down the middle shot with a little less speed and more revs. Seemed like I had enough backend to carry off-hits and packed the pocket when on. No time left so that was how I started.
Promptly pulled first shot left but carried brooklyn. Although I was off my mark on several shots, it wound up being a pretty forgiving shot with light hits leaving mostly 2 pins which I converted. Finished with a clean 223.

Second game started light but promptly reeled off 3 strikes, 2-8 conversion and 4 more strikes before getting a little loose in the 10th - finished with a 243.

Last game I seemed to be getting some carry down and just wasn't getting the back end until too late. Fortunately I had some easy leaves and my spare shooting was on again. No doubles, but a decent 193 finish.

I didn't think about it at the time but it wound up being my first clean series in a while. No split leaves helped out a lot to this end.

Catching up on posting scores -

Great bit of bowling there Bigcall, wish my open bowling went something like that, but mostly matches your third game for all 3

My expectations are growing, another good week for Fab5, and a new season high series on the cards. We may have been late of the hack but lets push on to the end and finish high.

Hate to break up the momentum of your post SteveA...The only one puzzled in the first game was me last night. A somewhat painful 127.
Finished 127-182-201 = 510

The first game was tight and pain. I hit the pocket a lot, left 10 pins, couple of bad splits.

The second game my hand was cupped nicely, and bowled inside. Just not enough strikes.

Third game, best form for me all year. I had finally moved back a few steps by frame 5, and played the 15 board to 5, finished with a five bagger.

Honestly disappointed with scoring for sure. But my slide was on finally, hand in the right position, good release, but didn't figure it all out until the last few frames.

I might try to practice tomorrow, as I'd like to have that feel again. It was the first night ever that I felt the full game and form come together, instead of bits and pieces. When my elbow allows, I had to change speed a little due to better motion.

Sorry for the below par score, but an advance in my game. I might try to bowl a game or two before next weeks's league to warm up for game 1, which over the course of the year has been 10 pins less than my game 2-3 averages.

I forgot what was perhaps the most important aspect of my third game last night. Targeting Down the lane, not arrow marks. I lined up to my arrow mark, then lined up with my breakpoint. It's obviously not an automatic part of my game now, and it needs to be, especially after transition and the lanes drying out.

This has helped me out a lot, distant targeting.

No sweat SteveH, it's a team game and together I think we've hit another season high and we have another chance for a few points again this week.
