it sounds like you are running into as tough a lane conditions as I am. Actually, i relish the difficult patterns and challenging conditions. I do bowl in a fun league i use for the Virtual League on this site. But, i'd rather bowl in tough conditions since i doubt many tournaments will provide a nice cushy house shot.

I'm finding out since most of my equipment has been set up for Sport, i do not have any equipment for THS so that now has become a challenge which i need to remedy.

I made the mistake of polishing some of my reactive stuff. in particular one ball that is pin down and has a high-flare drilling. I was bringing the surface down over a period of two weeks and finally found the 500/1500 grit got this ball to turn over on a THS predictably.

I'll know this weekend if it works as well as it did in practice today. I have another ball that is a bit squirrely that i plan on resurfacing with the same grits. the pro said i can use his ball spinner to touch up the surface anytime i want. i told him he now has a new best customer and will be working with him on setting up the Hypercell when i get it.

How do you like the Hi-Skore rubber? how did you set it up and does it have a strong core or pancake? i have a manhattan rubber i use for spares or if i need a hook-set like you did. I also have a Black Hammer that is good for this type of thing as well.

I like having a hard rubber spare ball. Most of my plastic spare balls did not survive more than a season without chipping or cracking. Rubber seems more durable.

The ball has a pancake weight block, but I have it drilled using my Leverage/Differential pancake layout so that it flares some, and keeps the track away from my thumbhole.

With league scores of 232, 267, 190 for a 687 series, my last game cost me any chance of cashing in this week's online Virtual Tournament, except for 2nd place in one bracket.

However, in this month's local doubles tournament at a different house, I bowled much better with games of 244, 247, 234, 248, 223, and 279, for 1475 total, and 245.83 average. My partner averaged 222.83, and we made it to the finals. Unfortunately, a baker-style 237 game left us one pin short of advancing and we took 4th place. Still, happy to cash. I also won a couple brackets which helped make for a great day of bowling.

Looking forward to this month's upcoming local doubles tournament. Hopefully, my doubles partner and I can make it to the finals again, and improve our finish position. We gave it a go at another house on a U.S. Open-like pattern a couple weeks ago and did not make the cut. Like I always say, win some, lose some, there is always next week.

In the meantime, I had my best week so far in singles action on VirtualTournaments.com, cashing in the main tournament (12th place), and winning 3 brackets with scores of 246, 230, 242 for a 718 series (767 with handicap). They lowered entry fees for 2014 to only $10! So, the prizes are not huge, but if anybody is looking for a taste of tournament action, these weekly online tournaments are a fun and affordable place to start.

I have a lot of tournaments coming up through May. In February I have the City Open. In March I'm trying my hand at the City Masters the weekend before heading to Reno for the USBC Open. In April and May I'll be bowling ACBA tournaments (Arizona's top scratch, sport tournament, "tour") and I'll be bowling the Arizona State Open.

To get the feel for throwing shots in competition, I've been bowling weekly 9 pin no tap tournaments on Kegel challenge patterns. This Sunday I was the winner on Kegel Middle Road. I qualified first after six games, and won my watch in the stepladder. I pocketed $120 for the win, $85 in brackets, and a small trophy.

Everyone was complaining that Middle Road was surprisingly difficult, but I didn't find it hard at all. No-tap scores were 266, 278, 277 (natural), 244, 300, 230 in qualifying, and 288 in the championship match.

I'm hoping to at least bowl in the women's association's mixed doubles tournament (next month) and my city tournament (beginning of April) coming up. The NAT has a couple of tournaments at my center in the spring, and I'm hoping I can make those, as well.

Congrats, Champ, and good luck to you and Richie at your upcoming tournaments.

After a slow start, I had a nice run at this month's local doubles tournament with games of 199, 256, 279, 290, 226, 237, for 1487 total, and 247.83 average. My partner averaged 218.16, and we made it to the finals in 5th place. This month, in the triple elimination match, our baker-style 236 game was enough to advance to face the number 2 team. We bowled a clean 237, but it was not enough to win the game, and we finished in 3rd place. I earned some additional singles money for 2nd place high 6-game qualifying series, 1 high game pot, and some brackets. All in all, a great day of bowling.

Kegel Easy Street scratch tournament yesterday, which was pretty much a house shot- 38', 10:1 ratio, strong backends. Scores were high (no surprise)- 4 games of qualifying- 225-255-238-234 for +152 qualified 5th, won first stepladder match 230-215, 2nd match 258-213, then lost the semifinal match to finish 3rd. Won the 2nd game high game, finished 2nd in the eliminator (was the cut line in the 1st and 3rd game), and finished 2nd in one of my 5 shootout boards. There were 2 300s shot in the tournament. This center runs tournaments on the last Sunday of every month (except December), with a year end tournament in November that bowlers who participate in at least 3 events qualify to bowl, and this year they have decided to alternate Kegel recreational patterns with sport and PBA patterns. I believe next month is Cheetah. I didn't have much luck on the sport patterns last year, as I would fall behind the right side as it opened up. I have always found that if a pattern is easy on the left at the start, it stays that way most of the time. If it's tough on the left, it stays that way, too, but will open up on the right as more and more guys carve up the pattern.

Nice bowling, Fin. There were no local tournaments this past weekend, but league scores of 234, 245, 235 for a 714 series were enough to finish in 9th place ($30.69) in the 200+ division on VirtualTournament.com, along with winning 4 of 5 brackets ($88.40), and surviving the Eliminator ($11.90). Not bad for a few minutes to enter and a few minutes to post scores.

Those virtual tournaments look pretty cool. I'm tempted to join. None of my leagues update on leaguesecretary, so the virtual folks would be calling my center every week to confirm my scores. That's the only thing holding me back. My league secretary is one of these people who always seems like you're bothering her if you have a simple question...I could only imagine the treatment I'd get if there were people calling her every week, asking her to go out of her way to do something simple.
