Ever since Jake Peters won his first PBA Tour title in the Lucas Oil PBA Badger Open with the Primal Rage (nicknamed Redball), it seems that Motiv has gone a little overboard putting the same Fusion Pearl Reactive coverstock on several new balls in its lineup. In addition to the Primal Rage, the list now includes the Tribal, Cruel Intent, and soon-to-be-released Sigma Sting. What's next, Raptor, Venom, and Ascent Fusions, too? Is Motiv planning the same strategy with Fusion Pearl Reactive as Storm has with their popular R2S coverstock?

I guess it depends on how successful their Fusion coverstock really becomes. I don't think one tour victory makes the cover successful (or versatile) but it could be a good strategy if the cover does work for a wide variety of bowlers.

That is the reason Storm uses the R2S so often, it works for so many bowlers and has a proven track record so it tends to create good ball motion.

Maybe Motiv is on to something, or maybe they are just hoping it works, we will soon see!

In my opinion, I think it can't hurt to put the cover on all their cores. Motiv has some of the most dynamic core reactions out there. Problem is that their covers are more geared towards tournament quality conditions not house shots. I am glad that they are putting a cover that can handle lower quality/quantity house conditions just so I can see those ball motions I only see on sport patterns. Let's take the Primal Scream vs the Primal Rage (Red ball). On a house shot I am playing inside and have to keep the ball as close to the head pin as possible with the Scream. Now using the Rage I actually have to stay a little up the back of the ball for the first game because of how much more length it gets. After transition I can bowl 10 more games, hardly moving and swing as much lane as I want. I couldn't imagine playing a heavy oil pattern (with my speed and rev rate) with the Rage but he Scream would be first out of my bag easily.
Just using the new cover on their current line up of cores might just bring Motiv to you masses of house bowlers. Today's average bowler is often confused with a ball that doesn't hook because of skid out vs roll out. Those who have seen Motiv balls roll out in the past may now be presently surprised with how much Motiv has to offer in ball motion variety for all styles of bowlers on their house shots.
