Hi guys,
I'm a newbie studying PBA tour rules. I have a lot of questions to ask but today I want to initiate to ask a very basic question about pairing rule. As long as I know, in qualifying rounds, there are several squads and players are paired or grouped within each squad. I think there would be a rule of pairing to make it fair. Where can I find those kind of rules? Or do you know about the rules?

Thanks in advance.

The pairing is done randomly.

I don't know where the rule would be but I bowl regionals as often as I can so that is where I gather my opinion from.

I don't think it will be found in any rulebook, but normally there's a seasoned member on just about every pair, especially when a guest who may not be too familiar with the lane courtesy rules is bowling. That's how Harry paired guys up when I was bowling a lot.

I am having trouble understanding "what would be FAIR". Tourney rules will dictate the pairings, especially in qualifying, often random assignment as in qualifying, you are bowling against everyone else. After that, it would be specified either first qualifier vs last... or step ladder... or another. But, those are tourney rules. There is no given method as I see it.

Thank you.
Based on three helpful replies, random assignment is fundamentally employed in qualifying rounds.

Is there any rule to assign squad, too?
Thanks again.

Usually the squad is also random although a player may request to be placed on a certain squad in advance if they have an issue with travel or something like that.

A request does not mean you will be given that squad, just that you can give a reason why it would be better if you could have the early/late squad due to travel or other extreme circumstances.
