Feel free to post your 2013-2014 tournament experiences under this thread.

This Sunday kicked off the first in a series of tournaments in my area. Up first was Beaten Path at an older AMF wood house. Entry angle was the key to carrying, but there was a lot of risk to go along with the reward. I had one game with 7 strikes and 4 splits. I scored better the other games, and led the qualifying round with +4 after 4 games. The stepladder cut was -78. I didn't think Beaten Path was supposed to be that difficult. I was able to use my Ascent Pearl around 5 at the arrows all day long. It's supposed to be a "weak" ball, but it hit the pocket so hard, I left three stone 8 pins (lefty). The final match was on the pair I had my highest game, and I closed it out with a 208 game to take 1st place.

I might be contributing to this thread...the NAT will be my way a couple of times this year, but also my Pro Shop guy wants to start up his "King of the Hill" tournaments for my house again, and I may bowl in those, sanctioned or not (as I want to support my house as well as my association).

Nice Joe! Congrats on success! I'll be looking to add a few more victories to my list this season. maybe we can bowl in doubles one week in the Virtual Tournaments if you like that. i'm not entering anything big until i get my grip and arsenal situated as I have not decided on baseline anything yet. i have old balls and equipment mostly urethane from long ago. with only 2 reactive balls that are ages 5 and 15 years old i have not had a chance to really build a proper arsenal. i think i can do it with 5 or 6 balls if done correctly. sounds like we have similarities in our games (rev rate, etc...)

keep them coming!

Thanks, guys. The number of local tournaments has really thinned out in this area. There used to be at least 1 or 2 tournaments every weekend in the fall. Now, it may be another few weeks till the next one.

There was another tournament event on Sunday in Annandale, VA, with a different organization. I arrived at the bowling center about 30 minutes before check-in, and was only the 4th car in the parking lot...not usually a good sign. By the time the tournament was supposed to start, a total of 9 bowlers had showed up. After discussing the options, 3 of them decided not to bowl. I had other places to be, too, and left. That's the first time I have seen a tournament canceled for lack of participation, but I guess it is a sign of the times.

Hey,
Do you live near Annandale? I thought you were in OH for some reason. That used to be my home house. There must have been something else better going on for the lack of entries in that tourn.
