I live in MD, about 45 minutes from Annandale, VA. Small world. I did bowl at the AMF Annandale house before, when the Amateur Bowlers Tour (ABT) was in this area. I think the poor turnout was just the result of poor promotion.

Competed in a 6-gamer on the U.S. Open pattern over the weekend. There was a lot more friction than expected, and no hold. I had difficulty getting lined up. A couple stone 8 pins in a row (lefty) persuaded me to move deeper inside, but without any hold, the ball just wanted to roll up early on the nose. I might have had a better shot with my Natural Pearl outside, but I thought of that too late. I finished in the middle of the pack. There were no other lefties in the money. If not for winning a couple of brackets, it would have been a total bust. Thankfully, there is always next week...

Thank you Joe Bowler!

Singles went well, had a 696 series. Last game had front 9 and went very slightly high leaving a 4-7 and a 278 game.

Doubles, well, let's just say that all 4 wheels came off in that session. Bowled the worst I can even remember(going back to teen years bad). Like your 6 gamer, no hold inside, outside was not working for me and I left MANY splits.

All in all a very good experience for me in Tulsa. Had some great games, made a bit of money in brackets and also in a team Eliminator event before we started the actual Team event. Will find out in a couple months how I fared in the totals. If anything, I think I was the only 300 game over the weekend and should get the high game award from one of the sponsors of $100. They pay out high game each weekend of the tournament.

This weekend, I was looking forward to bowling a 6-game qualifying, 6-game match play scratch tournament on the Kegel Broadway pattern at the same bowling center as my PBAX league. First place was $1,200 guaranteed. This morning, I received an email that it was canceled. Bummer!

Bowled in the Northeast Amateur Tournament today. Had 193, 212, and 157 for 562. Lanes were tough today, especially the 3rd pair I was on. Was actually clean the first game (only 2 strikes), and in the 2nd game started with a 4-bagger, but things turned very badly for me in game 3. We were on a tough pair and just had trouble carrying. Left 3 splits and a washout, managed to convert the washout but it wasn't enough. When I finally decided to go to my misfit in the 8th frame I left a pocket 7-9 and that was pretty much all she wrote for me. Missed the cut by 40 pins. Still, was pretty happy with my spare shooting and my overall improvement in this tournament. Had 524 and 546 in my two previous tournament outings.

Didn't go home empty handed though. I won a drawing for a DV8 Marauder so I will be adding another ball to my arsenal when I have it drilled up later this week.

sven, I wish I could have made it to Town Line (technically) yesterday, but my board was meeting that morning, and awards were on the agenda, so I needed to be there as a member of the awards committee.

Good job on a tough pattern, Svengali. Keep improving your scores each time out, and soon you will be in the money. Winning a new ball is not bad, either.

I am looking forward to a couple tournaments next weekend. Hopefully, no cancellations.

I had a choice of 2 different tournaments today. I decided on the one with the match play format over the 10 games total pins format because I thought it would be more interesting. I was not expecting the pattern to be inverted, with the first 10 boards out of bounds, and so much friction inside of 10 that more aggressive equipment hooked less rather than more. My best look was with my Ascent Pearl standing 25, targeting 12.5 at the arrows to around 10 down lane (no markers). Everything else was just burning up. It was the kind of day where my hard rubber ball rolled past a few spares.

Unfortunately, I did not make the second round, but I did have a nice chat with the 1983 USBC Masters winner while I cleaned my equipment and we watched some of the semifinal matches. He had some great stories about Walter Ray Williams, Chris Barnes, and Norm Duke.

Two weeks till the next tournament in this area, then onto some doubles action.
