Anyone have any good stories of shady bracket coordinators? Personally, I feel bracket coordinators either shouldn't be bowling or not participating in their own brackets to keep it fair. In one league, the coordinator doesn't post brackets until well into the second game and you know if he is all in or all out based upon his first game score. Second, twice in the last four weeks he rebuilt brackets again after the second game and I noticed on the second occassion (didn't catch it on the first) that he removed himself from all brackets after a great first game and horrible second game. I am out of his brackets now, but amazed that those still in continue to put up with it. Curious of other stories?

One guy used to do the brackets on his laptop, but never printed anything. Hmm...

We actually have outsiders run brackets on Monday. We usually get 6-8man brackets cap, and 2 scratch. Then there is the survivor, doubles and others every night. The ones who run it take $5 out of each category for their effort and print out every score and bracket result.

I used to run brackets -

I would never run brackets if I was bowling. WAY too much hassle. How do I bowl and run brackets? Running cards? Sure - that's not a big deal.

I would ALWAYS print out. When I did it (for Women's State) I would hand-write scores in as I got them and then print new copies when they were all finalized for that game. This gave an early indication, and bowlers could trace back.

Integrity is vitally important for all things.

My winter league secretary runs our brackets, but he's on the up-and-up. You may have to wait a week, but you do get your money, and I have seen him lose brackets even in the first game, so he's not monkeying around with them.

The Monday night Coke league here, where there's more at stake, *is* an outsider, and I know he prints out the first two games, anyway.

I run brackets, blind draw and pot games during league and I participate in all three of them.

I always post, in writing, who is in and what the pairings are as quickly as I possibly can. I typically have the bracket posted by the 5th frame of game one and its updated immediately as people finish their games.

Blind draw I have all the pairings posted as people enter and I close the entries at the 8th frame of game one.

Pot games we all have to be in before the end of practice for the night, second game high scratch score wins.

I would like to see brackets (and high game pots) handled by the bowling centers themselves through their scoring system and a separate flat panel display monitor. They can keep the $5 per bracket to pay for the software update and to boost their revenue.

I bowl occasional tournaments at a center that runs shady brackets.. I have seen the brackets printed and after the first game modified.. Always seems to benefit the local house bowlers..

In many states the center is not allowed to have anything to do with any pot games because of the gambling aspect. That is why many individuals from the league run pot games.

Some states may have stricter laws or broader definitions of gambling, but the USBC suggests a distinction between contests of skill and gambling:
"Side competitions/brackets in leagues/tournaments where the participating bowlers pay a fee, optional or otherwise, and receive prizes for high game and/or series, with or without handicap, do not violate the [gambling] rule because these involve merit pinfall based solely on the skill of the participant."

For more info, see:
http://usbcongress.http.internapcdn.net/...ebook_12-13.pdf

By contrast, an example of gambling which should be illegal is the "Chips Ahoy" drawing where I used to bowl league. The bowling center randomly selects a chip with a score on it (100-300, I think). Bowlers pay $1.00 to participate, with the winner matching their second game score. No skill involved, just dumb luck, and often it is horrible games with odd scores that win. If nobody wins, the house carries the pot over to the next league.
