I can't throw the Arson Low Flare (because its not a Storm Product) but I can assume that the Lights Out is going to be a little stronger and a little more angular overall. My assumption would be that the Low Flare is going to read earlier but be more of a long arc (based on the numbers its transition from skid to roll should start early but take a while to fully complete).

So, I go to the local Center, and here is one of my friends rolling this ball. I came in only to see him leave a 5 pin, then finish with a 279. his was his first game with the ball.

It rolled a consistent and smooth arc to the pocket. It didn't over react on the daily dry lane conditions. It was forgiving from the outside, and held on the inside. Quite impressive.

He cleaned the ball and let me feel the surface. It seemed tackier then any other ball I have felt. The cover stock really reacted nicely to the lanes.

Usually don't have many good things to say about Storm. But, this ball impressed me.

Based on everything I am hearing already, this ball is a strong contender for "Ball of the Year" in the eyes of many.

Definitely a good ball considering the price and how well it performs. Honestly, if you (general you) want to buy a new ball because you think it might help your game, don't buy another monster bowling ball, just because its the most aggressive ball on the planet, save $50-$75 and get this ball instead. Way more useful.

SK8: How does it compare to the Heat Hybrid? Right now, as a step down from the hybrid, I use my Heat Solid, then go to my Breeze Solid.

I think its a little bit earlier (and less snappy) than the Heat Hybrid. Its kind of midway between the Hyroad and the Heat Hybrid if you ask me, but still nice and smooth.

It is probably similar (in terms of aggressiveness) to the Fringe, yet it doesn't go as long or turn as sharp, it is a Fringe that blends the pattern out very well.

The Storm guys do know how to learn from success. They took the 2Fast/2Furious, made a hybrid version with eye-popping color, presto the new wonderball and they have sold a bajillion of them. They updated the 2Fast/2Furious with some eye-popping colors of their own, don't think they've sold as many of those as the Frantic but they're selling them I think, and I think the Freak'n will sell well too.

New for 2013, they took the older Fast/Furious, and made a hybrid version (the Lights Out). This one is more understated, pretty much the people who HATED the looks of the Frantic would probably like the looks of this ball. I predict they will sell 3/4 bajillion of these. Not bad for combining an existing core with an existing cover.

I like what they are doing. Within the legal and useful ranges of RG and Diff there is only so much you can do, but they are freshening up the product lines of these mid-price items now and then, and through testing and development still IMPROVING them with cover formulations that match the cores better (at least, I THINK they are). It's not just Storm either, note the new Ebonite Source (Mission core, pearl cover) and it seems like Columbia has been making stuff with Resurgence cores for quite some time (never mind Hammer with the Gas Mask!)

Thanks as always for the video Sk8, and for doing actual "ball reviews" not just the typical ball reaction videos without useful commentary or conclusions.

Another great video Sk8, keep em coming!

Do you think this would be a better step down from the IQ Tour Pearl than the Frantic? I hear the Frantic is a pretty strong piece and I'd rather not overlap with my IQ Tour Pearl by getting that over the Lights Out.

Yes I do, I think the Lights Out is going to be a more versatile ball than the Frantic for sure. It adapts well to surface changes and also to release changes to give you the look you need as the pattern breaks down.

I threw mine yesterday for 15 games without a ball change, starting in the track (11 at the arrows out to 7) and ended up playing 24 at the arrows out to 8 without any loss of carry or worry that the ball would do something I didn't expect. It really is a ball that can handle about anything your throw at it.
