Just my latest practice vid. We were kind of forced into a not-so-good filming angle. I think my release got a little "less bad" although from this angle it's hard to say...

I figured I'd take out some stuff that I normally don't use, these balls never come out for league. Brunswick Revolver (weaker than advertised IMO), Ebonite Cyclone (a lot of ball for the money!) and a Track 503C (way stronger than advertised IMO).

Anyways...

I can't see much from this angle. It looks like you have a fairly low track, and might benefit from learning new hand positions and learning to alter your axis tilt. You would also benefit from learning to use your legs more, if you can that is, not sure if you have knee issues preventing it or not.

Yeah, apologize again for the angle. We only had a tabletop tripod with us that day, and for some reason the front desk insisted on putting me on the next lane from bowlers on my right (the rest of the house was nearly empty). It was best we could get, I almost said "don't bother". I hope to get something better soon.

I do utilize tweaks in my release to alter ball reaction but mostly more or less cup with my wrist (or kill shot with the wrist bent back). I've been working to top the ball less (or turn it less early?), but small changes. (summer is a better time for the bigger changes). What you're seeing in the video is my "A-game" release, such as it is.

Yeah, my knee bend vexes me. There are about 260 reasons I'm not working harder on that. I hope to be in much better condition for next season. TBH my knee bend kinda sucked when I weighed 170 but I'm definitely too heavy to improve it much right now.

Thanks for the comments!

Compared to your previous video, it looks like your hand is staying behind and on the inside of the ball longer. Good work!

Thanks Joe. Mainly what I'm doing differently is, I "uncocked" my wrist and I try to keep my elbow to the inside of my armswing, if that makes sense? The cocked-to-uncocked wrist is something a lot of advanced power players (Rash, TJ, Barney etc) do, but I'm NOT one of those guys LOL. I wasn't getting anything out of it and I think it promoted turning the ball behind my back..

Another development, which is hard to explain... during a lot of my shots these days, I feel the ball "just hanging off my fingers" during my swing. I'm not sure how this is different from before, except maybe I was catching more of the ball on my palm? Then at the point of release the ball "just comes off". In any case it's not a big change, I don't think anyone could see a difference in the shot, but I sense a bit more revs, more entry angle, and most importantly a more consistent release. That's a feeling I'm going to continue to cultivate and see where it gets me.

Now to get to work on knee bend and using my legs as CoachJim suggested... if only I liked to exercise as much as I like to eat, LOL!

Well, it's not better. The good news is, I can still score (pause at 0:22) but the arm is turning behind my back. This is just six shots, first three were with benchmark ball (Roto Grip Berserk, 1000/3000 Abralon) which matched up great right out of the gate. After a game I switched to my Roto Grip Bandit (1000/3000/polish) which was really laboring until I started hitting 9-10. I thought the last shot wasn't too shabby but during the off-season I MUST retrain my swing so my forearm doesn't turn in during my backswing.

Good and bad
The good - You are staying behind the ball better.

The bad - now you have a lot of loft.
Don't know if it's from staying behind the ball better?

And your raising up at the release point. I don't think it's a weight thing ,maybe your trying to add some speed to the shot.

Wow, great screencaps, THANKS!!! I guess it is a tiny bit better.

I'm not sure what's up with the loft, except lately I've been trying to feel the ball "hanging off my fingers" during the downswing, maybe I'm grabbing it with the fingers?

Last night during league I had to make a wrist position adjustment to reduce entry angle into the pocket (I can only leave solid 8s and solid 9s so many times before I lose my sense of humor) so I flattened my wrist out and was concentrating on just letting the ball come off. Of course, no video of league but it felt good. Was a good adjustment, too.

I definitely do need to work both on point of release and staying down with the shot. Popping up may work for WRW, Angelo and Shafer but not me. I reckon from your screencaps my point of release could drop 3-4 inches no trouble and I'd benefit from the leverage and the cleaner "landing".

Thanks again, those pics and comments are awesome!
