RickSchott, I more or less study the fundamentals. One way of trying to teach myself would be to watch professional bowlers which I think have good fundamentals, practice an aspect of their style without actually bowling (where I have neither shoes on nor a ball in my hand and I'm not at a bowling center), and then try the individual aspect out on the lanes.

I visualized what you suggested I do and shadow-practiced. Wow, what a difference it makes; it especially helped to read the article and then test out your suggestion. It seems so effortless when it comes to getting my swing plane straighter. Thank you for a very helpful suggestion. I will try it out the next time I hit the lanes.

I forgot about this one strategy I have for practicing my physical game. I do a lot (and I just cannot emphasize that enough) of Wii bowling. What I do is practice my approach, release, follow-through, et cetera, when I bowl on the Wii. I also imitate other bowler's approaches, releases, and the lines they play, which has a "fun" aspect about it, if you will.

On that game, I'm positive that my "A" game is straight up the channel. I know, you just cannot associate "serious bowling" with "Wii bowling," but hey, what can you do when you cannot just go to the lanes more than once or twice a week (and twice in a week is during a really good one for me)?

your "A" game will be up the channel for now - but just wait until you get fingertip drilling. You'll find SO much more comfort and leverage on the ball . . .

I meant my "A" game being up the channel on the Wii. In real life for now, it's straight up between board 7 and board 10, as you can see in the video. I can see myself with a fingertip drilling standing on 10 (right foot), throwing at 5 at my breakpoint so as to counteract the drier part of the lane, and hitting my side of the head pin in the pocket.

My plan for the future should I ever encounter sport shots: straight up the boards or a 1-2 board difference between my target at the arrows versus my breakpoint.

When I started using my ball, I remember one time trying to spin (I actually mean "spin") the ball when it was just left of the channel at around the second board, and watching it hit close to the pocket; my ball speed during that shot was very low, probably less than 10 mph.

I can imagine being able to throw the ball faster with a fingertip and not having to try to hook the ball anymore. However, I've been making less of an effort to hook my ball and it hooks as much as it used to, if not more.

Is there anyone else who is willing to review my game?

Tip for those watching/commenting on my physical game: It really helps to notice and point out the small details.

Quick question for the more experienced bowlers: How many aspects of my physical game should I attempt to improve at a time?

Bonus question for those willing to answer: If you had not known my average or skill level prior to watching the video, what would you guess the two to be?

I'd have thought 180 or better. You're already doing a lot of things better than I do. Right now I'd work on those couple "swing plane" adjustments, and when you start rolling fingertip with some more revs (which will come naturally with the grip change) we can start talking about lane play.

I try to work on one thing at a time - when I do, I tend to screw something else up so I have to basically do two things - keep existing elements "stable" and add the one "new" thing. That's MORE than plenty for this neanderthal. . . LOL

Okay, I thought that I should only work on one aspect of my game at a time. My list of aspects I need to improve:

1. My timing, which ties into my arm swing.
2. My swing plane, which ties into my footwork.
3. My walking line, which ties into my target.
4. My accuracy, which tie into filling frames with spares and strikes.

Strangely enough, though, it seems like working on one thing really can improve other aspects. It seems akin to the old adage song about bones.

I can't help thinking that there's something that I am missing. I am aware of my wrist position on the ball and I have a wrist support (hint: not a mechanical wrist brace); I do better without it for some strange reason.

Does anyone else have some helpful advice for my physical game?

You are correct that you are missing things, but you are still very green to the sport and miles ahead of most that first start out. Building the fundamentals up to become more solid and engrained in your game will be very important so keep working on those fundamentals you pointed out above and make sure they are rock solid.

You understand the game very well for your "young bowling age" so now you have to apply that knowledge. There are things you could improve that would help but they might automatically improve with your fundamental work just because those aspects get stronger and allow you to get into a stronger position.

Keep your plan like you just mentioned and keep posting a video now and again so we can see the progress and help steer you in the right direction.
