After each bowling Open Championships-career high doubles sets in 2011 and yet still finishing outside the top 10, Scott How (Oregon City, OR) and Thomas Ault Jr. (Portland, OR) posted sets of 672 and 679 respectively to take the Regular Doubles lead today with a 1,351 total. Both also had a shot at the Regular All-Events lead after two games of singles, and How's team, Reunited, now sits in 4th place in Team All-Events. The rest of Ault's team, Team Tilt, bowls doubles and singles tonight.

All Joe Keltner (32, Wichita, KS) did this weekend was throw 735 in team, 737 in doubles, and 683 in singles to take the Regular All-Events lead with 2,154, his doubles partner, Chris Greene, adding 667 for 1,403 and the Regular Doubles lead, and his team, Team Tilt, becoming the 34th team to eclipse the 10K pin mark in Team All-Events (they now lead, of course) with 10,065. The team also included the 2008 eagle winner in Regular All-Events, Jay Futrell.

Scotty's 1 (Alexandria, MN) just filled frames to post 918-923-879 for a 2,720 series on Monday, currently good for the lead in Classified Team. Jon Lee headed the effort with a 607 set.

Doing some catching up...

http://bowl.com/news/newsdetails.aspx?id=12884907390

Kelly Bonta (47, Wichita, KS) became the third bowler in Open Championships history with two perfect games at the NBS (the first coming in 2007) on Sunday, and added games of 248 and 228 to take the Regular Singles lead with 776.

http://bowl.com/news/newsdetails.aspx?id=12884907393

Later that Sunday, Verne Heidenreiter (49, Sheboygan Falls, WI) threw his own repeat 300 a decade after his first (in Knoxville, TN) during his team event. 26 bowlers in Open history now have 2 perfect games. He started the third game with another 9 strikes before a 4 pin ended his run; he would have been the first bowler with three 300 games in the Open and joined 2003 Regular Singles champion Ron Bahr as the only bowlers with back-to-back perfect games.

well....It was not my worst trip ever. It was close, but Albacracky when I got sick on the plane ride out - and never did recover - was worse.

A true disappointment, as I had been on a real heater since christmas time....[hangs head in disappointment, despair, disgust]

Drove my composite average for the year DOWN, 2 pins even though I have 300 lines on the tally sheet...

Joe Smith (59, Escalon, CA) had a 181 lifetime average and a 612 high series in 10 previous Open appearances, but rolled the fourth perfect game of the 2013 tournament yesterday, and made a run at the Regular Singles lead before finishing outside the top 10 with a 727 set. He started the day with a 514 series in doubles in which he only had eight strikes in the three games.

The Open Championships team record of 3,537 by Bruegger's Bagels of Albany, NY stood for 20 years until yesterday, when Lodge Lanes Too (Orlando, FL) had five-time Team USA member and double eagle winner John Janawicz strike out in the final frame yesterday to set the new record by a pin. The team is composed of Janawicz (752 series), former Team USA member Vernon Peterson (772), triple eagle winner John Gaines (681), 1987 Team All-Events champion Mitch Jabczenski (669), and PBA Tour titlist Scott Newell (664). The games were 1,206, 1,167, and 1,165.

Just to show that it, indeed, takes 10, Lodge Lanes Too's companion team, HammerBowling.com, is now 9th in Regular Team after posting a 3,247 score.

Less than 24 hours after striking out to claim the team series record for his team, John Janawicz (40, Winter Haven, FL) struck out again to claim the Regular All-Events lead. Along with his 752 in team, Janawicz posted 676 in doubles and 741 in singles for a 2,169 total. Lodge Lanes Too, however, fell short of the Team All-Events lead, settling into second place with 9,820.

Three perfect games were thrown at the NBS Friday. Chad Kloss (36, West Allis, WI) began the frenzy in the early team squad to help his Red Carpet Lanes team (Waukesha, WI) to the third-highest team game in tournament history with a 1,272. After opening the event with games of 1,075 and 1,152, the team settled into second place in Regular Team with the fourth-highest team series in Open history with a 3,499 total.

David Flemming (55, Fairborn, OH) and Chris Snyder (39, Allegan, MI) followed with perfect games in the late team squad.

Derek Magno (33, Cicero, NY) and Joe Conti Jr. (28, Liverpool, NY) have only been doubles partners at the Open since last year in Baton Rouge, but Magno threw 752 and Conti 651 on Monday to tie Chris Greene and Joe Keltner for the Regular Doubles lead with 1,403.

http://www.bowl.com/news/newsdetails.aspx?id=12884907496

After just missing the Regular Team lead with only the fourth 3,500 team total in OC history on Sunday with 3,521, the members of Junior Team USA Support 1 (Mansfield, TX) continued bowling strong in the minor events to take the Team All-Events lead with 10,247, the 10th highest total in tournament history. Eric Vermilyea led the final surge in singles with a 290 game, and Steve Novak had the high individual all-events total on the team with 2,153.

I forgot to look last week, but here are the first low-to-cash numbers (as of 4/1)...

Regular Division

Team: 2,691
Doubles: 1,071
Singles: 556
All-Events: 1,720

Classified Division

Team: 2,310
Doubles: 933
Singles: 471
All-Events: 1,481
