We're approaching the start of nationals for this year, which, as most of you know, will take place at the National Bowling Stadium in Reno. The USBC will again stream a kick-off show on Feb. 28 at 4 PM ET on BowlTV, their YouTube channel, during which they will release the two (yes, two, if you haven't heard) oil patterns that will be in use.

The USBC has posted the live streaming schedule for the tournament, and I'll run down the notable events below (all times are Eastern):

March 29, 10 PM: Defending Regular Team champion Nicholas J's Pro Shop 2 (team)
April 6, 2 PM: Defending Regular Singles champion Henry Teetz III (doubles & singles)
April 13, 10 PM: Team USA's Shannon & Bryan O'Keefe w/ their Cambridge 1 team (team)
May 1, 1:30 AM: Matt McNiel (Defending Regular Doubles & All-Events champion) & Linds Lakers (doubles & singles)
May 17, 10 PM: Jeff Richgels & 11thFrame.com 1 & 2 (team)

There will also be streaming from the Women's Championships, and those events will be in bold on the linked page. Also, the USBC may add bonus coverage during the tournament.

Nertz....these are all after I go. I love watching Riggs and the boys break down the lanes.

I'm looking forward to watching Matt McNiel and the Linds Lakers. He's an incredible talent, and its fun to watch the elite teams when they're hot.

The one "pie in the sky" dream I have is to make my way on to a team that is really hunting for Eagles. I'd love to someday be part of one of those Midwestern teams that put so much stock in the event.

BTW, I put the O'Keefes' appearance up not only b/c I know they're one of the best teams year after year, but also b/c I know two of the bowlers on that team, Bill Webb and Chris Viale, from NEBA. smile

I know the O'Keefes....they were here before moving to Dallas.

BTW, if anyone noticed the change in Riggs' team name, his blog site is now sponsoring the group. smile

And Matt McNiel will be in Reno for the run of the tournament, as he's the coach at the VIP Showcase Lanes. And, adding to a previous post, the Women's Championships are also in Reno, in the Reno-Sparks Convention Center. Let me know if anyone wants me to include the women's tournament in my "clipping service." smile

And the oil patterns are out...first, the pattern for the team event:

http://usbcongress.http.internapcdn.net/...ditionGRAPH.pdf

41' in length, 26.05 mL total oil, 2.57:1 ratio

And the pattern for doubles & singles:

http://usbcongress.http.internapcdn.net/...ditionGRAPH.pdf

39' in length, 24.4 mL total oil, 2.37:1 ratio

The thing you'll notice is that the pattern for team is longer and oilier, but there's also more shape to the pattern than the one for doubles & singles. Matt McNiel, the VIP coach speaking on the kick-off show, doesn't think you'll need to get crazy with your ball surface, saying anything in the 2000-4000 range should work on both patterns, but also said the six bowlers on the pair for doubles and singles will need to work together; this means that, if they get to bowl doubles and singles together, the teams that are used to working together for team, such as Jeff Richgels' 11thFrame.com team, will have an advantage in doubles and singles, as well.

Thoughts?

BTW, the first bowlers shoe up tomorrow.

FYI, the Storm Bowlers Journal Championships, one of the side events, will also take place at the NBS for the first time, and will be contested on the D/S pattern.
