Don't league bowl personally but would like to know

And know this has probably been done to death, just not gone through all the posts, but what's your scoring system in your leagues.
Lad i know plays in a 5 man team handicap league and scoring goes along the lines if you beat your opposite number 1pt.total team pin fall 2 pt, team handicap over 1000 1pt, 1200 2pts.1300 3pts 1400 4pts 1500 5pts.
Seems like doesn't matter what your standard is there's always a chance to help your team get some pts on the board.Could even have the situation when the team win over all but lose points wise.
Is it fair ,whats your thoughts?

Any scoring system that the league members agree to is fair. If someone thinks the scoring is unfair, they would need to make a proposal to change it at the next league meeting (which can be called at any time by the league's board/officers, but it's pointless to change scoring systems in the middle of a season).

Not so much bothered if they want to change it, more interest in how it compares to other league scoring systems , and set up the way it is would it be the sort of league that would draw much interest from the competitive bowlers in the forum

Almost every league I've bowled in is just team total including handicap wins the point or points for that game. My current league is 7 points a night. Two for each of the three games bowled and then 1 point for the combined total of those three games. With the exception of one, every other league I've bowled in has used a four point system. One point for each of the three games bowled and then one for overall total. The handicap is normally a percentage of the team average difference.

The one league that was an exception used a 7 point system like the first I described but the two points per a game was split. one point was for scratch and one for handicap.

I've heard of other leagues, some of the members on this site even bowl in some, that work like you the one you describe, which is a match point system,a bowler goes head to head against the person opposite of them. I've never heard of additional points for a team bowling over certain scores though, and I don't think I like that part. Without that the same amount of points are possible every league session. With it a few teams can have more total points, which are basically wins and losses than other teams and have an advantage in the standings.

Monday night, 4-man teams: 30 points per night
Team wins 5 points per win, = 15 points
Team wins 3 points for total pins
Each bowler wins 1 point per game when he beats his opponent, 4 bowlers, X 3 games each = 12 points

Thursday night, 3-man teams: 16 points per night
Team wins 2 points per win, = 6 points
Team wins 1 point for total pins
Each bowler wins 1 point per game when he beats his opponent, 3 bowlers, X 3 games = 9 points

All scores are with handicap

So, you've described in part a Match Play league - "home" team chooses the order of your team so who plays who, and you get 1 point for each player win, plus 1 point for overall team win. I really enjoy that style of scoring, but it's much more serious and tends to be scratch...

"Normal" is a point per game plus a point or two for overall - ours is 4 points per week, 1 per game an 1 overall.

Should never be a situation where your team wins all three games but loses over-all. COULD be, though, where you split points - win 1 game by enough to cover the other two games' losses. . .

Best system will get you a chance to get points. . . laugh

steveA, in that case, my own league is just a point for each game and for series total.

Have you heard of Peterson scoring? It's based on blocks of pins...a common Peterson system is a point for every 50 pins, often with bonus points for winning game and series. The youth travel league here uses a Peterson system.

Got some info on how the league works
Main money pot is based on points, player v player and overall team score.
Second money pot is for the points for getting the extra points for the bonus points from the over 1000 pin bit. Means even teams that are losing on the night have some thing to play for. So yes your been slaughtered by a better team but if you can get a few bonus points your still adding up points towards that pot.
Seems like a good way to do it.
