Coming soon...the Brunswick Aura...new low RG, high Diff core, and new optimum flip coverstock formula...it's on my watchlist. Brunswick rates it off the chart in hook potential and angularity, even higher than the Nexxxus. But first, I want to see BTM's review, and how it performs on oil. Then, maybe I will finally replace my Ogre Particle.

It seems the last couple years have been a turning point for Brunswick. First, Sean Rash became PBA Player of the Year, then Walter Ray became Senior Player of the Year, and recently long time staffer and PBA Hall of Famer Johnny Petraglia became the first player in PBA history to win a national tour or senior tour title in six decades by winning the PBA Senior Dayton Classic earlier this year.

Something good is cooking in the Brunswick factory in Mexico...

I agree they've got some great stuff coming out lately. For a while, they were almost an ignorable company, but they've generated some excitement lately. I'd personally like to try out a Nexxxus and a VersaMax just for fun. Not to mention, DV8 is really turning heads as well.

Just a thought...if you only tried one...VersaMax offers more entry angle (Stroker: 7 degrees) for less money.

Thanks for the tidbit Joe. The versa max is the one I tend to lean to. As it stands, my black taboo fits the role I would have for that ball, so I dont need one, but once I have some spare cash and want to experiment, I think I'll be looking at it.

Is a 7 degree entry angle too much? (If 6 is optimal, is 7 too much of a good thing?)

Another thing Brunswick has going for them is good advertising. The videos they are putting put right now are well produced, and informative. They explain the purpose behind each new product, who it will be most useful for, and how to best utilize it. Excited, informed customers will make your business thrive.

So far, my favorite ball company has been Hammer, however will all the negativity towards the current state of bowling through their savebowling movement, and a product line that merely attempts to make the line up from six months ago obsolete, its hard to be interested in them anymore. It seems as though they aren't excited about making great products. They just want to churn out "hook in a box" balls every six months. Its a turn off for me.

I like to use the numbers in BTM for comparison purposes. Not everybody will get 7 degrees entry angle. Some will get more, some will get less. But, I like that the numbers are from Digitrax in a controlled, independent test environment, not subjective estimates of length and backend on some variable length pattern, by somebody trying to sell the ball.

That said, it is easy enough to reduce entry angle by moving further inside and/or reducing axis rotation. What's hard is adding entry angle when you are at the limit of how far you can move and adjust. That's when a ball like the VersaMax is invaluable. It gives you that edge.

I try not to like/dislike brands too much. I prefer to think in terms of balls versus brands, evaluating each ball on its own merits. But, I did have a nice run with my Hammer Infection. I just did not see anything in Hammer's new lineup with equivalent or better numbers.

Yes, it will be interesting to see how the Meanstreak rolls, too. Based on its specs, it appears to be more of a medium strength ball.
