I don't know why leagues make handicaps x% of y individual averages. Why not just use x% of y difference in team averages? Otherwise, bowlers over y individual average get free pins when they need them the least, and there is a whole lot more meaningless calculations to do for individual handicaps week after week.

+2. All but one fun summer ball league I've bowled in has used the difference between team averages, and I'm still not sure why that league did it has all points were team total only and the handicap only got added to the team total and not the bowlers score. Unless there are head to head points at stake I don't really see a reason to use individual handicaps. None of the leagues I've been in award anything for high individual games or sets.

As for Fall league, my meeting for Saturday night mixed is this Saturday and then bowling should start the following week. At least this year my whole team should be there the first night as last season 3 out of 5 bowlers were on their way home from vacation the night the league started.

Went to the league meeting last night. No real big rule changes, just a couple of minor tweaks. League officers stayed the same. As I was the only bowler that showed up for my team I set the rooster up at least for when we start in 2 weeks. Well it seems that there are going to be some changes. My brother and sister-in-law informed me today they are going to have to back out for financial reasons/career/school issues that they had found out about yesterday, but at least I found out early enough. Their son and the other bowler that was on the team last season are returning.

I already filled one spot as a good buddy of mine got screwed out of his spot. The center apparently called a different bowler on his team, even though his information is listed as the team captain. The person they contacted told them nobody from the team was returning so they were giving his spot to another team. There is a waiting list of teams to get in the league and 4 teams had no one at the meeting to verify they were competing out of the 48 that were slated to bowl. If one of those 4 backed out he would have a team spot but would still have to scramble to try to put together a team which he could have had at least 3 but wasn't too keen on bowling with one of the guys despite being a friend of his. So that made things easier. Now we just need to find a female to have a full team.

We discussed this option. But, it was quickly discared because we bowl head to head as well as team vs team. We have a 30 point system. 5 points for each team win (15). 3 points for series. And, 1 point for each head to head game for each of four bowlers for 3 games (12). So, we have to calculate inivdual handicap. We did raise the cap base to 90% of 235 which is above the highest average bowler from last year.

It all kicks off tonight, i'm looking forwards to the challenge. God only knows what the shot will be like but it can't be any worse then last year. Patience, keep it clean....

I guess my practice yesterday took more of a toll on me than i thought. I struggled with the simplest things, shooting myself in the foot every chance i could. Even just getting out of the ball was an adventure. Not a picture of perfect technique. Somehow, i survived...

Threw the Heat all three games and i'm still just amazed in its reaction. It did throw me off some in my spare game though as i had eight opens (all makables). Scores were 183 (4 opens), 206 (2 opens) and 207 (2 opens). 596 with 8 opens, could've been a lot worse. I secured a spot on a thursday night league starting after labor day so hopefully i can start establishing a little more consistancy through games bowled per week. I'm going to force myself to the bowling alley everyday until i get my swing and release back in line. Even if its just for a few games, gives me an oppertunity to do more recording with my camera.

Well my Monday mens league started off with a sputter... 194, 170, 167. Just couldn't seem to do anything right, and unfortunately splits were the result of most my opens. Only missed two "makeable" spares 3-6-10, and a 10 pin. Mixed league kicks off tonight, hoping to turn around things from Monday!
