I subbed again on Friday. I was all alone playing the 4th arrow. Everyone else was well right of me. I used my Marvel Pearl all night. I started out with the front 3. I missed a hair left and paid for it with a split. I sandwiched two single pin spares around a strike . I doubled to set up the tenth frame. We needed every strike in a close match. I got the first one and left a 7 pin on the second shot. 224

First shot of the second game I missed right and the ball hit the dry and took off and left a wash out. I picked up the spare though. I alternated strikes and spares for the first 5 frames. I then left a 4-7 split that I whiffed. Feeling the sense of urgency, I got on my horse and struck out from there. Again we were in a very close match and needed every strike. I finished with a 226.

I'm still playing the same line. I got the first two strikes, then I left the 4-7 split and took out the 4 pin. I struck then left the 3-6-10 and clipped off the 6-10. From there I again felt the sense of urgency. I struck out for a 234

I had 25 strikes, 6 spares, and 4 splits. My strike percentage was at a healthy 71%. Single pin spare conversions was at a nice robust 100%
I'm feeling pretty good right now.

Averages go in the book after 4/30 leagues, so last week was my last chance to add to my averages. Shot 759 to raise my Wednesday avg to 240.03 (punched out in the 10th of the 3rd game to get there), and shot 676 on Thursday to put 235.22 in. My composite average of 237.63 breaks our association record by 5 pins. Every year the local association recognizes the top 5 bowlers in the area. Criteria for inclusion is bowling at least 2 leagues, in at least 2 centers, and bowling in at least 75% of the scheduled matches. They take the bowlers' top averages from 2 centers, and get a composite avg from those. Most bowlers who make the list bowl in 4-5 leagues in 3-4 centers, so they have a few to choose from. I bowled in 2, so I didn't have any that I could throw away.
I'm the last person to brag about this kind of stuff, and you won't see me saying any of this on my Facebook page, but even with the outrageous scoring pace of today, I'm pretty proud of this.

Well, tonight was position round. We have jumped into second by beating the first place team 3 games last week. And, tonight, we have the privilege to bowl them again.

This time, we are still 3 points behind. A sweep will win the second half. 5 points would gain a tie and a prospect of a 1-game rolloff.

I had trouble getting out of the ball. I changed balls twice and IT thumbs 3 times. I found the right combination in the 6th of game 1, after leaving 4 split opens in 5 frames. So, with my 3rd ball and the 3rd IT thumb I got a turkey, but left a pocket 7-10 in the 10th for a 159. A real sorry performance. But, fortunately a teammate had a 267 and another rolled a 247 so we won the first game.

Second game was a 'no contest' as our low man of 5 was 226. The ball change I made worked for a 257. And, we won game 2 by over 200 pins.

Game 3 was nip and tuck til the 10th. Unfotunately, they had 3 split opens, while 4 of the 5 of us struck out for a convincing win. I rolled 227 and 643 series.

We won all 3 games again, and champs of the second half.

Next week, we bowl for the championship. It's the first championship I will bowl for in over 5 years. And, we bowl the highest average team. Should be great as the low average of 10 bowlers will just over 200, who is me. But, I feel good about it because I wasn't supposed to even bowl this year.

Final night of the scratch league. We needed one point (of 26) to clinch the second half championship and got it the first game. I ended up with 220, 225, 256 for a 701 series. Then it was a one-game rolloff with the first half champions. I had the first 8, unfortunately big-4'ed on the 9th frame and finished with a 250 but my team was in the 950's for total and won by almost 100 pins, LEAGUE CHAMPIONS. It worked out that we bowled the season for free, which is pretty cool.

Got the word that 8 lanes AND THE BOOMING Pro Shop would be removed over the summer in favor of laser tag for the kiddies so I'm abdicating with my title. There are still bowling centers that CENTER AROUND BOWLING, I feel they deserve my support.

Tonight's bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

The skinny on tonight was the missed single pins, as I would probably have squared my average with last year had I made a couple of those. I did feel I was making most of the right adjustments tonight, however, so I'm making progress with my overall game.

Result: 167-174-190=531
Final average (105 games): 173
Average for last 9 games: 187

The team came back from losing the first game by 90+ by winning the other two by enough to take total by 21 pins.

Had a good look on the lanes tonight. First game had a 238 left 2 stone 9's and a ten pin, all were converted. Got light twice in 2nd game with a 2-8 and a 2-8-10(my only open all night), left a ten pin which converted and ended with a 223. Third game moved slightly and had a good read, had another stone 9, another 2-8 and ten pin conversion ending with a 246 for a 707 series. Always happy with a 700. Also happy made lots of good shots and converted my spares very well. As a team we split. Lost game 1 by 20 and lost game 2 by 2.

Thanks- I am. I'm realistic about the scoring environment, and I know I'm shooting in a couple of the higher scoring centers in the area, but so are the guys I'm bowling against. I'll be captain house bowler for a season, I guess.

A quick night at the lanes. We had the Vacant team tonight, and considering my team has two vacancies out of five bowlers it was going to be a pretty quick night. Well one of those bowlers called out not feeling well so we had two bowlers on the pair. We didn't exactly rush, but kept a nice pace consistent with only two bowlers. I'm not sure if that played in to my problems tonight or not as they were some of the same ones that have plagued me over the last couple of weeks. I have now posted 7 straight games under average, 8 of the last 9 under average and 7 or those were in the 160s. I think it might be some off the lane personal things that is just lingering at the back of my mind or maybe just the strain of the season and possibly the tiredness of losing more often than not.

As a team we were able to win 5 points, the first two games and total. The first game my 169 was held up by my set up bowlers 220. The second game my 193 helped offset his 159 to keep us within the limit needed to win the points. The third game we both rolled in the 160s. I needed a double in the tenth and instead left a 2 pin. I had several washouts, a lot of light hits even when moving right or using my stronger ball. Some of this was I believe ball reaction issues due to needing oil extracted and surface work but a lot of it was my Execution.

We won the league championship, tonight. We won the first 2 games, so there was no need to roll the third. That made 43 consecutive wins since I joined this team. What a run!

I was looking forward to tonight, since I know the opponents, and they were good bowlers. But, fate was on our side as the lanes were especially oily tonight. I guess to make up for the lack of oil the previous week. They had trouble on the oil with their equipment. As, the outside slid their banking balls right down the lane. Our team seems to roll more solid equipment, and we had the line in game 1, winning by over 100 pins.

The second game saw them make a late run as the lanes weakened, and they matched up better on his condition. However, we held on for a 40 pin win. And, that's all we needed.

2 of them discouragingly, took off their shoes, and walked out. So, we just called the match. We didn't need to bowl the final game.

I found it odd that their highest bowler (217) made 4 ball changes in a game and a half to finally find a ball that worked. I don't remember any of my team changing balls. However, I would have in game 3.
