The USBC calendar turned to a new year last week, so I'll take the liberty of starting the fall/winter leagues thread, as some of your leagues will be starting early.

I had had an offer towards the end of last season to join a team in the more competitive of the Wednesday night leagues, but that team fell through, so I'm back in my fun league with my teammates from last season. As for hopes and goals, I had an off year last year, dropping 11 pins between books, but my health may have had something to do with that; that was addressed in the summer, and I'm having one of my better summers, so I'm hopeful for the fall and winter. With somewhat lowered expectations, I just want to enter the season with the thought of taking everything one shot at a time and hoping for the best.

I'm starting to get the itch to start bowling again. I took the summer off, since I couldn't really afford a league, but I should have taken more opportunities to sub. I did practice quite a bit, and I'm feeling good about this upcoming league. I've got some brand new equipment, a better approach, and more experience than last year; the goal is to average 200, keep my attitude under check, and keep bad games from being awful. Really looking forward to getting started, but I have to wait until the first week of September.

I'm getting the itch as well.. Even though I've been bowling all summer long, I can't wait for fall league to begin.. This fall I'm bowling in two new leagues, at two new houses.. I'm looking forward to the quicker pace, 4 man teams instead of 5.. There should be close to 40 teams, with a league average close to 210 in my Thursday night invitational..

There's definately gonna be some money to be won each week, which makes for a great motivator... I have some new equipment in route which is always exciting.. And I'm also bowling in a mix league with my wife as well.. It's kinda nice being that she's fairly new to bowling, and already has equipment picked out for the fall, new shoes, and has decided to chose 900 Global as her bowling company..

I received the email today. My Wednesday night fall/winter league starts 8/29. The first meeting is 8/15. I can hardly wait. I did a lot of experimenting over the summer with new stronger entry angle equipment, more comfortable finger pitches, a more dynamic wrist release, micro adjustments lining up, etc. I am looking forward to this being my first 230+ full season average in this league. This house has a reputation for changing the shot weekly, on purpose or otherwise. It has been a worthy challenge. I expect lots of competition here in the virtual league, too.

We don't start winter leagues until after Labor Day, and for the first time in a few years, I'm bowling a second league. Money is being added to the prize fund of an already good Thursday night league, so 1st place will pay $2500/man. Can't really pass that up, now can I? It's a handicap league, but very competitive, and our 4 man team should average in the neighborhood of 900. Still going to bowl my Wednesday league, and hope to get back to 230 in there, too. Was there a few seasons ago, and have been 227-228 since. I don't really expect to keep up the pace I've set this summer in there, but getting close would be nice. Our local association compiles a top 5 list of bowlers, and to make the list, you have to bowl in 2 different centers and bowl at least 75% of the scheduled matches in those 2 leagues. Of the bowlers who meet those criteria, they take a composite of your top 2 averages from different centers, and recognize the top 5 as their "Tidewater Top 5". I've made the list a few times, but not since I last bowled more than one league, obviously, which has been awhile. I'd like to make that list again this season.

Man, I'm in the wrong league. Our first place team gets 400 per man...after paying in about 650.

No wonder everyone is always talking about winning and losing. Around here, getting back $150 is considered pretty good.

That's awesome. We have thirty-six, five-man teams. Each bowler pays $20/week. And, first place pays $1,000/man. My team has come close to winning two years in a row. For $2,500/man, I could probably get my teammates out to practice on the weekend!

We vote each season on what to do with the price fund... Top heavy or more of a even split... Top heavy wins every time.. This fall will be paying $26 a week in my new 4 man league.. There expecting 40 teams.. Lots of pots, brackets, and side betting... First place should pay over $2000 a man... Can't wait!..
