I thought I'd throw in a question for all:

When is someone labeled as a "cranker"? Is it defined by the axis tilt/axis rotation of their ball? (Keeping in mind that as an observer, we may not see the axis rotation and tilt). Or is it by the high backswing, high ball velocity player? Or is it by the number of boards the ball crosses?

In my opinion one of the tell tale signs of a cranker is someone whose body gets to the foul line before the ball. The cranker basically plants at the line and rips through the ball usually with a bent arm. This produces very high revs and usually requires lots of speed. the result is covering quite a few boards. I think the axis can very a little depending on how "up the back" the player is. I can spot a cranker by a bent arm swing.

If you look at the site map they have a bowling Glossary, and it has a good definition. A bowler who generates revolutions by a cupped, broken, or muscled armswing.
