My strategy for averaging 220 or higher is to first, give the lanes what they want, second, keep my physical game simple, and third, be confident mentally and expect success.

Giving the lanes what they want is understanding that nearly every oil pattern has a sweet spot, and bowlers playing there with the right speed, loft, axis tilt, axis rotation, cover, core, layout, etc. will always score higher. This is knowledge of the sport, and your own game, and comes with time, and analysis, and observation.

Keeping my physical game simple is understanding that bowling is not only a game of finding the shot, but repeating the shot. That is much easier to do if you are not trying to rip the cover off of the ball, throw it as hard as you can, etc. Bowlers who have observed my game have noticed that it appears effortless. That is the goal. I think of it as just walking the ball to the line and letting go.

Lastly, I find it helpful to think positively about my game, and how things will play out. For example, in competitive situations, I think of pressure as something the other guy feels. When I need a strike, I think of the last one I threw, and tell myself there is a lot more where that came from.

Anyway, that's my two cents worth. Oh, one more thing. I would suggest practicing as often as possible. I am only bowling three games a week now, but there was a time when I bowled an hour a day every day. I think our bodies need that to train the muscle memory. Then, averaging 220 or higher becomes automatic.

Sorry about your knee, seriously. I have major issues with that--right one's fixed, the other could blow at any day, any time. Blurgh--oh, and the time I watched a dude stick so bad he flew up and landed on the gutter cap right square on his knee. Looked like he had a grapefruit down there. HOOOORRRK!

Hopefully not that bad. . . it just pops. It's actually fine while I'm bowling. . . but if something happens and it pops, it's like to make me squeal like a little girl. Getting it checked out.

Anyway, you got my back last week so no worries, brah. Had an early 600 so we cool.
Best news for the evening is that I borked up the opposing team's big scorer's line. Whaaaa? He's exploding the pocket straight up 12? Buuuhhhh...I can do that! And I have weaker equipment and several hand positions before I have a problem. He don't so hurr durr derp on him. 5-6 frames later finally sent him left and really hacked him off.

I love doing that - and getting in their head. A kid who has the high average in the league was just smashing them and I just messed with his brain a bit. . .tossed him right out. laugh

BLURGH!

I totally gag when my knee pops/gives a little. I can hear yours in my head loud and clear. Thanks for ruining my day. wink

I'm ordering up even more weaker equipment as we speak for playing in this house. Cyclone. Either I will ride the crap outta this same line this week with the Freeze, or (according to the numbers) play out with the Cyclone. Or have a secondary in case the Freeze gets jumpy off 12.

Seems like every week someone else is bringing in a Nano, too. Works great for 5 frames and then back to back pocket 7-10s and flat 10s and then the tears start.

"Y u no get X?!" Angry meme face.

But, yeah, totally borked in on this dude. Haven't had success playing aggro on someone in ages when I hosed an old teammate with a urethane. "Oh, you can only Walter Ray it! Lemme fix that for you. Imma take your oil and put it in the back end. You're welcome."

We swept again this week. Great bowling guys, we've been on fire lately. We're only two points down on second place. Let's keep moving up. I'm off to the lanes in two hours.

Decent night tonight for all the dumb mistakes I made.

203, 204, 169 for 576

Lanes were much tighter than they usually are, and everyone was having trouble with carrydown and skid. I missed a 5 pin, and had two gutterballs, and I had two other opens on splits. In the 169 game I had two doubles and a struck out in the 10th. Kinda ugly but at least I did enough right to keep the night above average.

Team won the night, and I won 5 of 7 matchpoints. Not an awful night.

Last night started off well enough, but when the lanes started to transition, I made all the wrong moves. I zigged when I should have zagged, and finished with a 279, 216, 174, for a 669 series.

It makes me want to say...Blurgh! Hmm, that felt good. Maybe with a little more diaphragm...blurgh, Blurgh, BLURGH! Wow, I feel much better. Thanks, Domo, for the new healing word. smile

Fortunately, my teammates were all pumped up from the nutter butter peanut butter sandwich cookies we brought and nearly everybody shot 700 except me. We won 5 of 7, while the first place team won only 2 points, narrowing the gap to 7 points with 6 weeks to go.

Ouch we got it handed to us last week. We got swept. Fortunately we didn't drop any positions. Oh well, better luck this week guys. I've got my equipment getting sanded and polished, and I'm off to bowl soon.
