In 2007, Dennis Poepping (52, Alexandria, MN) watched as his teammate Lenny Boogaard posted the winning effort in Classified Singles. This weekend, he may have carved out his own spot in the history books, posting a 554 in team last night, and a career-high 643 doubles set and 549 in singles this morning to take the lead in Classified All-Events with a 1,746 score.

Mike Larsen (28, Arlington, TX), the USBC's Director of Association Development, joined his partner, Gary Brown, in the record books with the fourth 300 game of the tournament (Brown threw his in the 1996 event at Salt Lake City) in his doubles event. Larsen also holds the distinction of having thrown the first 300 game in the ITRC, doing so in October of 2010.

Its amazing that there's only been four 300 games so far. Last year we were hearing about a couple a week. USBC sure made a statement.

Bill King (69, Vergas, MN) recently celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary, and could be celebrating a Classified Team title after throwing a 539 series to help his Frazee 2 team to a 2,678 total. Fittingly, his wife made her Open Championships debut on his companion team, Zee Lanes 1.

The fifth and sixth 300 games of the tournament came just hours apart today, with David Morgan (53, Rutland, VT) getting the first of the day in singles in his first appearance at the Open Championships, and T.J. Schmidt (23, Osceola, IN) following up his 300/855 performance in doubles from last year by becoming the 22nd bowler with multiple 300 games on the championship lanes to open his doubles event.

Getting caught up...

Henry Teetz III (40, West Allis, WI) threw games of 232, 279, and 289 on Sunday, striking on 21 of his last 24 shots, for the first 800 series of the tournament (on the button) and the lead in Regular Singles.

Michael Sagers (33, Clearfield, UT) later in the day threw the seventh 300 game of the tournament and the first in the team event (second game).

Jonathan Dunbar (34, Powhatan, VA) has bowled 299 on smaller stages twice, but picked the OC to bowl his first 300 game yesterday, which was the eighth of the tournament. The perfect game came at the end of doubles.

I failed to spot in the article on Henry Teetz' 800 series that his Five Horsemen of Racine team, which also includes Ron Vokes, the 2009 Regular All-Events champion, also now leads Team All-Events with a total of 9,731.

Lodge Lanes Too of Orlando, FL got off to a slow start in team, but then rallied to take fourth in Regular Team with 3,196, then carried that momentum into doubles and singles to take the Team All-Events lead with 9,744. John Gaines, holder of three eagles, led the team with a 1,994 all-events score.

To all the guys who have bowled on this and did well congrats. i went to pract last night and got put on a pair of lanes that were oiled with this oil pattern so teams that were heading up could pract and WOW was it tough. I was plaing strght going up board 12 to 13 and letting it break just a hair into the pocket. If i missed 2 board right it never touched the head pin. So glad i do not have to bowl on that pattern all the time.
