I normally start this thread with the link to the oil pattern, but the USBC decided not to release it until today as part of a special kick-off show on BowlTV (the USBC's new YouTube channel), which will start streaming at 4 PM ET.

As usual, I will provide updates on key events in the tournament, such as honor scores and lead changes, as well as periodically posting the low-to-cash scores. Others may post in this thread to tell everyone how they fared.

And here is the pattern: http://usbcongress.http.internapcdn.net/...ampspattern.pdf

It is a 39' pattern with a 2.2:1 ratio. On the kick-off show, they said the pattern is suited to multiple angles, but you don't want too much angle too soon, or the pattern is going to appear as a reverse block to you. You'll also need to manage your launch angles. Other than that, it should score fairly close to last year's pattern.

The guy in my Pro Shop is of the opinion that you'll have to get in deep on this, though, so we'll see.

Bowled on the pattern today, very speed sensitive, no miss room at breakpoint unless you have a ton of hand, dont get fast on it or you'll go past the breakpoint, its pretty difficult and I think it could be a low scoring pace and should come down to spare shooting

It looks to be the same pattern that they've used the past 10 the break point should be just at the range finder on the 10 board. Bring something strong to start off with and be ready to move in and change to an aggressive pearl when the lanes transition. If you are left handed it may not transition much so bring a strong dull ball to dry a line up the 7 or 8 board, then move in with a less aggressive ball.

I don't see anything scary about this pattern, it looks the same as it has the past 10 years, be ready to make your spares.

Good Luck to all, Vamp post back and share your thoughts.

Yeah the pattern was very playable unfortunately i dont get my defiant till monday so i cant say how well that would have worked on the fresh, my victory road worked ok as the pattern started to break down some, my key and it was the same with some of the other higher speed bowlers that were on it too was to stay behind the ball and to also get a little air under it, just enough so your not laying it down into the oil, so your kind laying it onto the oil, but as long as you can be accurate you should be able to score very well, i know lower speeds and higher revs should start more in and throw it to the breakpoint, and lower revs and higher speed should start a little further right and throw it right up the break point if not point it at the break point.

Only taking 2 balls this year as it was all i could afford to get redone due to a span issue. Storm X-Factor Deuce II and Storm Reign. That was also eliminate me over thinking and rely on what my eyes and ball tells me about my shots

I'd love to see what Jeff Richgels thinks of this pattern, but, unfortunately, you linked an article dated 2010...two years ago. :|
