There are reviews everywhere. Unfortunately they are all by Motiv staff.

I'm seriously considering the Raptor, but would like to see an unbiased review.

BTM describes it as a easy rev, max flare, heavy oil ball.

I just got mine today. The first game I had the first five and finished with 232. After the first game the ball really started going high and I couldn't adjust after moving my feet left and trying to throw the ball out more. I love the reaction and the pin action I'm getting just have to get use to it.

All I can say is...finally...I found a longer, heavier oil ball that I like better than my Ogre Particle (now retired). The Motiv Raptor P7 paid for itself its first time in tournament competition. After rolling a test game with it the night before, I took it to a 10-game scratch tournament this morning. I was not expecting a sport pattern, but no matter. I started with my VersaMax benchmark ball and my usual 3 test shots. When I saw it was laboring to make it back to the pocket, I switched to the Raptor P7 and never switched back.

The Raptor P7 is smooth, strong, reads the midlane with ease, and has just the right amount of entry angle. After 10 games, the cover never showed signs of taking on too much oil. I averaged 221 for the day, won 2 high game pots, had 11 in-a-row one game (not sanctioned), and took home an extra $154 for the day (6th place) against a strong field that included regional pros and ball staffers. If not for a sore thumb, I think I might have done better. I had the ball finished at 500/polished. Next time, I think I will just leave it 500/dull since with the rougher surface, the polish was gone in the track area after a few games.

A moment of silence please for the Ogre Particle...

Wouldn't you know it? There is a new Motiv Raptor Talon to be released 12/12/12 with the same great Low RG, High Diff, High MB core, and an even stronger cover. Hmm...

I hate how companies do that. I know, marketing is marketing, but I don't have to like it. Its like holding your "S" in scrabble. Like Storm or Hammer will release the solid, then the pearl, then the hybrid. Release them all at once so the average Joe can look to see what one suits him best so he can buy one ball.

I can't blame the manufacturer too much on this one. The Raptor P7 has been out for over a year, and the new cover is also solid (although I suspect a particle mix). I think it is more likely a case of Motiv realizing the success of the Predator core, and deciding to continue its use with an even stronger cover. BTM gives it a total hook rating of 57, its highest hook rating ever. I just may get my wish, an Ogre-Particle-like cover, with a high performance core. In the meantime, the Raptor P7 sanded 500/dull was a much-needed, welcome addition to my arsenal.

I recently learned that while Motiv is a relatively new company, they bring to the table about 20 years of experience manufacturing high performance cores for other companies, along with having patents for their own unique graphics. Impressive.
