My Week 11 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

The notes on the BowlSK sheet should be self-explanatory, though it bears mentioning that a move outside suggested by Lou kept me in it third game; I just didn't make enough spares. It should also be said that there's a discrepancy between what I have on BowlSK and my scores on the recap (below); I don't know if the scorer was in error, but I had thought the scorer was correct, so I don't know which end the error is on (though I'm also sure the frames on BowlSK are correct about what happened).

Result: 220-165-141=526
Average (33 games): 181
Average for last 9 games: 170
Next week's AVG+1 score: 573

Eileen pre-bowled because she went out of town with some friends from a different part of the country, and her first and third games were the difference makers in the team taking the lion's share of the points tonight.

Well, we are still in first place. But, by only 2 points. And, next week is the rolloff.

Tonight was the tale of 2 balls. First ball should have worked. But, just wouldn't finish, leaving single pins every time
184-183 in what I thought was going to be a big night. Then I changed balls to my LM pearl ball and started with the front 6. Finishing with 278 in game 3 and 248 in game 4. 893 series, I think.

But, we only won 2 while the second place team won 3 of 4. So, they crept up by 2 points.

Next week will be fun for all the marbles.

The good news: I've finished my summer league averaging 188, which for me is an improvement.

The bad: It was in a sample size of just 9 games, the last 4 of which were the worst 4 out of the 9.

Last night: 184-171-154 = 509. Had I not rolled my lone double of the night to finish game 2 (struck out in the 10th), it would have been about as bad as game 3.

Started the night with, for once, good speed control and timing. However, I was stung by lousy pin carry (my best shots were leaving ringing 10s, while some of my poorly-thrown shots scrambled the rack for wall-shot strikes) and couldn't get around it with adjustments.

I think it eventually got into my head -- ball speed crept higher and higher during the course of game 2. By the start of game 3 it was over 20mph, which is way too hard for my low rev rate. The front half of game 3 included a 2-8 that I chopped, a 6-10 that I guttered because I rolled the spare shot about 25mph, a 4-pin that I missed because I lined up wrong and a gutter-9-count. Ugh.

Finished my no-tap league tonight. Lanes were dry and a bit erratic in reaction. Between warm up and somewhere in the first few frames of the second game I tried every ball, many lines and hand positions. If something worked once I had issues repeating it. The first frame I struggled to a 156 game. Second game I started getting it together for a 199 game. Last game I actually started repeating my shot, using my Target Zone I only didn't get a no tap or strike twice that were both splits. The first was the first game and I had my body turned in toward the left at release and it went through the nose for a 4-6-7 and only got the 7. Second time was an 8-10 split in the ninth that I liked the shot off of my hand, but I think it might have drifted a board or two farther out and hit flat. I got the 8 and struck out in the tenth for a 244 game and a 599 series. We took three of four points and at least moved up one spot in the standings. Now to gear up for my fall league.

We are in the final 2 weeks of position round for my Thurs singles scratch league. I came out swinging and rolled 257 and lost to 259. I hate to lose but IF I have to that is exactly how I prefer it. I backed it up with a 243 game for 500 over 2. The lanes broke down and we both shot terrible. I struck out for a 189 game and a 5 pin win thanks to my opponent missing 2 ten pins. That 189 game gave me 3 out of 4 points on the night and a 4 pin lead over 2nd place with a week to go. It is funny how a lousy 189 game sets up what I did all Summer. So I need 1 point this week to take first seed. We bowl 3 games, then the top 5 go into a King of the Kill style tourney to decide the final results. I should finish no worse than 2nd, that'll mean pressure is off let it fly. It is a small league and the money isn't great but there are some decent bowlers in there so I'll take what I can get. I have work to do yet and on these lanes ANYTHING can happen so I am not counting my chickens just yet.

My Week 12 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

This might have been my best overall bowling night ever. I pulled the shot on a couple of 4 pins for misses and had one bad split, but, generally, everything felt good. I made the right adjustments at the right times, made most of the easy stuff, and even threw in a couple of split conversions (OK, I caught a few breaks on "mixer" strikes, too. laugh ). The result was only my second 700 series, and I wasn't even aware of it until I saw the total on the scorer.

Result: 245-199-256=700
Final average (36 games): 185
Average for last 9 games: 188

I may be prouder of this 700 than my first one because it came on a position night, the only one of the summer, so it was a night that really counted. It was the biggest part of a sweep, but I should also mention Eileen was steady tonight, and Rob had an excellent night, as well. laugh

First of all, CONGRATS on the 700. Always satisfying to put one of those in the books.

Sounds like your focus was in the right place (not on score).

Congrats Richie. Nice bowling.

Our rolloff didn't go as I had hoped. We not only lost first place, but were soundly beaten by the second place team. We lost every game by a team who wanted it more then we. We gave them 60 pins cap, and were beaten scratch in every game.

I had a leg injury that caused me to limp and walk in pain. In retrospect, I shouldn't have bowled. But, even an absent score wouldn't have helped. Got 1 week to rest before Fall starts. Gotta heal this leg.

After bowling for 37 or so years, I still manage to do something every now and then that I've never done before. Last night was one of those nights.
In practice, we noticed that we were all getting little nicks (and a couple of long scratches) in our equipment from something on or behind the left lane. We started, and I opened up with a split, then 3 or 4 in a row. We were still seeing nicks come back on the ball, so we had the mechanic look into the problem. He tinkered around back there for several minutes, and hammered in a few nails. Turned the lanes back on, I threw a couple more strikes. Still getting damage, the manager moved us one pair to our left. I threw the last 5 or 6 on the new pair for 279, and an eleven in a row game. I've never thrown an honor score game on two different pairs of lanes before.
Finished with 237 237 for a 753.
I'm not sure how I'll fill out that honor score sheet next week when the secretary gives it to me. Did I shoot it on 13 and 14, or 11 and 12? Hmmm, both I guess.
