I found out yesterday that an old friend passed away last year and so I dedicated my league bowling last night to him.
He was instrumental to my bowling my 802 series and I was hoping to duplicate that last night, but managed a 660 series.
My friend was a natural educator and finished his life as an educator in a college near by.
During my 802 series back in '79, all I was really trying to do was to win the high series for the year, it was the last week of the season - and it was position round - we were in third place out of 24 teams. I had bowled 278 and 234 and had the 1st 6 in the 3rd game. The high series to that point had been a 702.
So I say to my friend, I guess I've got the high series in the bag. He replies simply, "Just keep going!".
So I did and I ended up with the 800 series.
He would verbally kick me in the rear when I needed kicking. We parted ways over 20 years ago and I've always missed his friendship and contagious smile!
