178, 187, 236 for 601. Two days before I'd bowled a 709 in practice and felt really good going into league. Starting off on the same line was a mistake. The last game I got a bit bothered and shelled down and switched lines from a fairly deep inside line to throwing 5 board at arrows, 3 board at 40ft. Hit the pocket and carried fairly well, even if I did get two brooklyns when I threw the ball too slow.

I was hoping to bowl in another house in a bowl-a-thon today, but a Star Wars fan club I belong to that I was going to participate in this with had trouble registering for the event online, so the chapter rep and his "silent partner" backed out, and my BFF and I decided to as well.

My BFF and I still ended up "staying home" and bowling today: 241-204-213=658 for me, so now two people close to me have seen me at my best (my brother is the other one, of course).

Today, was strictly practice. Shot 25 ten-pins, 25 seven-pins and 10 each 4-7 and 6-10's. Did OK, not perfect like Jordan.

Then I worked with another bowler to try to figure out why I am all of a sudden, leaving corner pins. Seems that this has happened twice this past week, and 14 ten-pins on Wed along with another 10 on Thurs says something is wrong.

I have moved up and back. Moved to the right. Slowed the ball down. And, changed balls. It happens all of the time. The other bowler was miffed, as I would hit solid hits and leave a ten. Then, I would slash light and leave a 7. I had a bundle of them.

Then he made a suggestion, as he noticed my ball seemed to need another half rotation as it hit. He had me rotate a little more at the release. And, that made sense. I had a problem of early rotation, so I have gone to a flat release to eliminate it. But, as I found, the ball doesn't finish as well. The rotation was about 10* when it should have been at 30* or more. So, I rolled a couple of balls that way to finish a game, and struck out.

I rolled another game, focusing on the ball's rotation at the hit. Shot 268, only leaving 2 ten-pins, and I realized I did it at the release.

So, maybe it is fixed? Or at least, I know what to look for.

Nice bowling Dennis and Richie,

There is no substitute for a good practice session.

...and a little coaching or, at least, another knowledgeable set of eyes.

Good luck and bowl well this week!

My home centre is shut down for a month so I have to bowl at the one near my house that I try to avoid, But I'll be bowling there more often from now on.

The pattern is pretty hard (39ft, but it's weird) and the centre doesn't care about anything so sometimes its broken down weirdly from hours and hours of bowling without reoiling. The heads sometimes get burnt out from bowlers stepping over the foul line for laughs... Oh well, lofting is fun!

My spare shot has changed a lot, instead of throwing it flat, which lead to forcing and then me realising it was taking to much energy out of me, I have gone with a low rev release and a bit of loft with my plastic ball. It's working very well, I just need to practice with it a bit more.

Question for anyone reading this: Does anyone else actually enjoy lofting the ball? Because it feels so natural for me. Sort of like how Mika lofts his shot.

I know of 2 who do this, 1 in each league. Both are over 220 average. 1 in particular, lofts about 10 feet downlane. And, when we bowled on the last pair in the house, I walked down the side walkway and looked where he lofted it. About 10 feet down was a 5" diameter circle of ball marks. He hit close to the same spot on every ball. Remarkable accuracy.

Shot in a team tourney over the weekend and did very well i think. Shot a 215, 191 and a 175. 191 shld have been a 200 but i missed an easy spare in the 10th. and the 175 i shot 2 splits on the same lane so made a ball change and came back to shoot my avg. I was happy with a 581 since that is over 15 pins abov my avg and my team took 3rd in the tourney and even made some money :-)

Practiced keeping my ball on my swing side, a little farther out. Seems, I have had a tendency to bring it closer to my body center.

When I focused on this, the hand stayed behind the ball well, and the release came out smoothly. Much different from what I have been experiencing of late.

Don't know the games, but the total was 1093 for 5 games.
