This is one of those stories I like when following this tournament that combines good performance with human interest. laugh

http://www.bowl.com/news/xmlburner.jsp?xa=./webapps/ROOT/news/main/data/051411DonnieMahoney300.xml

Donnie Maloney (45, Georgetown, OH) was involved in a serious accident that caused severe bleeding and a stroke shortly after bowling in the Open in 2009. He returned last year, but still was not 100%; however, he made up for lost time today by following doubles games of 179 and 219 with the 25th perfect game of the tournament.

Curt Aemisegger (55, Wauconda, IL) was a member of the champion Regular Team in 1990 when the then ABC Championships were in Reno at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center. More than 20 years later, he made Open Championships history again, this time at the National Bowling Stadium, with the 26th 300 game of the tournament. The perfect game led off his doubles event.

This should be no surprise to anyone who follows the USBC Open...

http://www.bowl.com/news/xmlburner.jsp?xa=./webapps/ROOT/news/main/data/052111RichgelsTeamLead.xml

Turbo 2-N-1 Grips 1 out of Wisconsin, captained by soon-to-be USBC Hall of Famer Jeff Richgels, shot a tournament record 1,281 third game to vault into the Regular Team lead last night with a score of 3,473, the highest team score in the Open Championships' seven visits to the National Bowling Stadium. As an alert to cgeorg, Mike Shady led the way with games of 247, 247, and 278 for a 772 series. Richgels credited much of the team's success to their companion team, Turbo 2-N-1 Grips 2, as all 10 bowlers enter the event with team strategy in mind and work together to break down the lanes.

Also been missing these...

http://www.bowl.com/news/xmlburner.jsp?x...abekdoubles.xml

Brandon Tarabek (26, Grand Rapids, MI) shot 745, ending with three strikes to put his pair's fate in the hands of Chad Reiffer (24, Kentwood, MI). Reiffer ended his doubles event with seven strikes of his own for a 752 series, meaning the pair took the Regular Doubles lead with a 1,497 total (I want to say this happened Wednesday night, but I'm not sure).

http://www.bowl.com/news/xmlburner.jsp?xa=./webapps/ROOT/news/main/data/052111RickGrahamJr.xml

Richard Graham Jr. (43, Lancaster, PA) missed a 300 game in his team event in 2007, and, in a return to the pair where that happened, he added his name to the record books with the 27th 300 game of the tournament in his second game of doubles.

Low to cash as of May 15:

Regular Division

Team: 2,740
Doubles: 1,120
Singles: 573
All-Events: 1,783

Classified Division

Team: 2,366
Doubles: 967
Singles: 486
All-Events: 1,526

I wish I lived closer to Steve Richter's Pro Shop than 4 and a half hours. He came up here for a coaching clinic last December. Great, great stuff. I'll have to arrange a coaching session or two with him down in Sheboygan sometime this summer. Had forgotten that I'd wanted to do that until this post. smile

Bob Chamberlain, Sr. (62, The Villages, FL), a member of the USBC Hall of Fame Class of 2005, became the latest to join the cast of bowlers (now 32 strong) who have bowled a 300 game at the 2011 USBC Open Championships. He did it in his singles event yesterday.

The same Bob Chamberlain who won the PBA National in 1984. Nice to hear about him and Mike 'No-Thumb' Miller still bowling well.

Getting caught up...

http://www.bowl.com/news/xmlburner.jsp?xa=./webapps/ROOT/news/main/data/060211RichardJenkins.xml

Richard Jenkins (32, Las Vegas, NV) had the 33rd 300 game of the tournament Thursday in singles. This now represents the highest total of perfect games in an Open Championships in the tournament's 7 visits to the National Bowling Stadium.

http://www.bowl.com/news/xmlburner.jsp?xa=./webapps/ROOT/news/main/data/060411MiguelSanchez.xml

Last night, Miguel Sanchez (23, Chicago, IL) made a run at the Classified Singles lead with games of 220, 213, and 245 for 677. This total put him in 4th place in the event, but it helped him take the Classified All-Events lead with 1,853 (592 in doubles and 584 in team).

Low to cash as of June 2:

Regular Division

Team: 2,741
Doubles: 1,121
Singles: 573
All-Events: 1,785

Classified Division

Team: 2,361
Doubles: 965
Singles: 486
All-Events: 1,524
