Erik Hohlbein (41, Renton, WA) ended doubles with a 300 game on Sunday to make himself and Shawn Copeland (44, Milwaukie, OR) the new Regular Doubles leaders with a score of 1,466. Hohlbein's perfect game came after shooting 258 and 236 for a 794 series, while Copeland added games of 201, 276, and 195 for 672.

Two honor scores in the same doubles and singles squad yesterday...

Adam Cardwell (33, Woodbury, MN) had games of 256, 266, and 285 to move into third in Regular Singles with an 807 series.

Mike McBride (35, Washington, IL) bowled a 300 game in the second game of doubles, which was the 15th of the tournament.

There was a scoring deluge in a 15 hour period running from Friday evening to Saturday morning...

Doug Morton (26, Anchorage, AK) got the frenzy started with a 300 game in singles.

Chris LaSpina (30, Garnerville, NY) followed minutes later with one of his own, which was bookended by games of 258 and 256 for an 814 and a tie for second place in Regular Singles.

Luke Voaklander (31, St. Bonifacious, MN) ended his team event with a 300 game, the first honor score of the tournament (I believe) in the team event. His effort was seen live on the Bowl.com UStream.TV feed.

Finally, John Szczerbinski (23, N. Tonawanda, NY), a former Team USA member, closed out doubles with a 299 game, then shot 269, 246, and 290 in singles for an 805 set.

As the tournament nears the halfway point, there have been 5 800 series in singles and 9 overall.

George Rowan and Rod Singer of Columbus, OH claimed the new Regular Doubles lead on the strength of Singer's 809 performance (278-242-289), with Rowan adding 205-257-223=685 for a 1,494 total. Singer's 800 series was the 10th of the tournament and 3rd in two days.

Meanwhile, Mark Dahart (36, Willingboro, NJ) ended singles on Saturday afternoon with the 19th 300 game of the tournament.

Linds Lakers 1 of Minneapolis, MN, for which Luke Voaklander had his 300 game in team, find themselves in a familiar position: leading Team All-Events at the USBC Open Championships, a title which they won in 2002 and 2006 and fell just short of a third title last year. Their new lead in Team All-Events is a score of 10,076, which is the 27th time in history that a team has eclipsed the 10K all-events mark.

The parade of honor scores continued with one bowler joining an elite group, a USBC Hall of Famer coming close to perfect, and a young bowler from around my neck of the woods getting his first 300...

Chris Gibbons (44, Madison, WI) became the 21st bowler with 2 300 games on the tournament lanes in his team event on Sunday. One of his teammates, Troy Cox, is also on that short list.

This morning, USBC Hall of Famer Wendy Macpherson was just a 10 pin away from recording a 300 game in her doubles event.

Finally, Tony Bennett (26, Worcester, MA), who bowls regularly at my center, recorded the 21st 300 game of the tournament in his doubles event. laugh

Mike Malinick (54, Garden Grove, CA) and Michael Cave (54, Hopewell, VA) threw the most recent of the 722 300 games in the history of the Open Championships on Wednesday. For the former, a 10 pin stopped him from joining 2003 Regular Singles champion Ron Bahr as the only bowlers with back-to-back 300 games on the championship lanes after running the first 21 strikes in doubles. Cave's 300 closed out his team event.

With the live streaming cameras rolling for defending Regular Doubles champions John Kreyer Jr. and Steve Bohn, the members of K & K Bowling Services 5 of Las Vegas, NV started striking on lanes nearby, overcoming a mediocre team performance by averaging 233.9 in doubles and 240.7 in singles to take the Team All-Events lead with a 10,283 score.
