Last night saw new leaders in both divisions in team...

First, Professional Image Center 1 out of Wichita, KS rolled games of 1,050, 1,055, and 1,144 to take the Regular Team lead with a 3,249 score. Kelly Bonta, who rolled a 300 game in the 2007 Open Championships at the NBS, paced the team with a 719 series.

A few lanes away, Paradise Lanes out of Walden, CO got a 631 series from team captain Matt Landis while posting games of 974, 938, and 998 for a 2,910 total, good for the lead in Classified Team.

Charles Surina (40, Bolingbrook, IL) had games of 201, 268, and 289 (758 series), while Bill Guszczo (Orland Park, IL) added a 195-236-258=689 for a 1,447 score to take the lead in Regular Doubles on Sunday. The pair normally bowl against each other, but teamed up for the first time for this year's Open Championships.

Kevin Hess (47, Atchison, KS) shot a paltry 447 in team on Monday, and it looked like things weren't going to be much better in doubles before everything clicked in the third game, allowing Hess to score the sixth 300 game of the tournament yesterday.

In a doubles/singles squad filled with hall of famers, PBA Tour champions, and a former Team USA member, it was Freeman Faison (59, Wilson, NC) who made the most noise yesterday, as he threw the 7th 300 game of the tournament in the second game of his singles event.

Gerald Cutshall, Jr. (61, Houston, TX) yesterday became the latest in a list of bowlers to pick the Open Championships to bowl his first career 300 game, doing so to open up his singles event.

Just thought I'd note that one of my association's Hall of Famers, Ed Roberts, won a Storm ball @ the tournament for bringing a team to Reno both last year and this year. laugh

Janzs H I out of Beaver Dam, WI threatened to hit the 3,500 mark (accomplished by only two teams in tournament history) with first two games of 1,109 and 1,245 on Thursday, but could only get 1,053 in the third game. The effort was still good enough for the lead in Regular Team with 3,407. Andy Bunkoske led the way with the first 700 of his tournament career (255, 258, 194).

Richie, I've looked, and can't find any references to what balls are being used at Nationals. Do you have any link?

I know many purchase the newest hooking balls, just for the tourney. But, in my experience, it only works for the Team event. Medium balls worked much better for me in Singles and Doubles.
