Hey everyone.

I went for practice yesterday since my parents had their league night. Ended up bowling four games. The scores were 179, 185, 165, and 215, averaging 186. Pretty successful I think. Brought my video camera with me, and it seemed to help a bit.

My coach is telling me my backswing is too high and that I am still bringing it behind my back. What do you think? And should I change/work on anything else? Thanks.

Back swing is not too high, and is not behind your back.

Here is what you need to work on.

1)Your wrist at the release point is broken in a weak position.

How pros hook a bowling ball.

2)Your elbow should follow the ball towards your target.

So what would improve if I fix the wrist problem? And how would I fix it?

Looks pretty good mostly. Backswing is at a good height, and is not behind you. ? The ball is a little too far away from your slide foot when you release at the foul line. This is causing a balance issue. Try to keep the ball a little closer to your slide foot, and try to stay on balance at the line. You should be able to hold your finish position... with knee bend... til the ball hits the pins. Don't worry about your wrist/release until you can be solid at the line.

I think some tilt to the ball side would help here from the set up through the release. A very slight tilt to the right and forward in the set up with the right foot, ball and head lined straight up and down with each other. Look up videos of Chris Barnes, Sean Rash or even Norm Duke. They all do this, just one tilting a little more or less than the others. Other top bowlers do the same thing as well.

Also a shot from the ball side showing the whole approach from head to toe is helpful as well seeing how good your timing is.

I think I had read about the tilting a while back, and I had been doing it for a while, and I guess I just stopped. I will try to do that next time.

I wanted to get a video clip from the ball side, but I had people bowling on both sides of me so it would not have worked. If I go for practice on Friday I'll see if I can get a ball side shot.

I saw the bowlers to the side in the video so figured it wasn't something you could have done this time out but just for future reference.
