Hello! Greetings from the cold Finland.

I have been following this site for long, but finally I decided to post a video of myself bowling. I have been bowling for about a year now, and I am very eager to educate and improve my bowling. Sadly, my cameramans battery run out, and he managed only to capture a few shots, and I think this is the best one of them.

So every single tip you have, is appericiated.

Best wishes, Antti-Matti, from Finland.

The coaches would probably want a side view as well. The push away seems strange but might be because of the angle.

I think there is a lot right here, I tend to like most of what you do.

One thing I think might help you out slightly is to get a little more power into your game, and this is done by a little bit faster tempo with the feet.

I don't know if its really worth changing for you because your footwork and arm seem to match up really well but overall a quicker tempo tends to create more power in the swing and as a result, more power at the pins.

Thanks for advices!

I have been trying to get "more under the ball" because when looking closer at my relase, I tend to come on top of the ball. Probably because of me trying to keep my relase and hand as loose as possible.

I try to get a new video as Im going to alley tomorrow.

Keep those advices coming! Any ideas for my next training session?

Your swing looks a bit tentative like you are tense or trying to guide the ball down the lane. Everything is very close and compact. If you look at the arm swings of your fellow countrymen, Mika and Osku, you will notice how high their back swings are compared to yours.

Here is a drill you can try. Put your hand in the ball, take your stance, put your left foot in front of your right foot and your right foot behind you to give you room to swing the ball. Then hold the weight of the ball in your left hand as described here:
http://www.bowl4fun.com/ron/tip7.htm

Then push the ball forward until your right elbow meets the front of your chest, then pour the weight of the ball into your right hand and let the ball drop into the swing, and let the ball swing your arm back and fourth, then catch the ball in your left hand without letting it go, dry your hand and repeat. Then step on the lane and use this swing in your approach and see if it helps.

I went bowling today, and tried your advices. I tried to start my swing earlier, but I just ended to muscle it down from the top. Also I could not get anything consistent. I managed to take some video, but failed in uploading. I still started my pushaway a step too late.

But something positive, (lol) the backswing was higher. I try to get the camera settings right in order to upload videos againg.

Any ideas about my late timing and push-away?

You need to match the cadence of your steps with your arm movements. I believe CoachJim stated it as 1 and 2 and 3 4 5. Where your first two steps are longer and slower. I might be off on that as I use a 4-step.

It's the first three steps in a 5 step delivery, the most recent bowler I helped used a 4 step approach which may have caused the confusion.

Matti, did you try the arm swing drill I posted? If so, how did it feel? Did you feel like you had to grab the ball to prevent it from slipping out of your hand?

Yeah Jim, I tried that. My swing was more relaxed and had to tape the ball completely againg. Wish I could use that swing in my bowling. It just makes my timing go grazy and i start to squeeze it, because my previous poor fit with the ball.

So, do you mean that the three steps in the beginning are slow and the rest a bit faster?

Matti,

Yes, the first three steps are slower. Your forth and fifth (slide) step will be faster. If you say this out loud you will hear the cadance:

1 and 2 and 3 4 5

For reference, the time it takes to go from 3 to 5 is the same amount of time it takes to go from 1 to 2. It is similar to music if you have any idea about that. The beginning is like 1/4 tempo, the last three steps become 1/8 tempo, so each step is actually only half as long (in time not distance) at the end.
