Bowled 12 games today. This time, I got two lanes and did it league style.
I learned my lesson and left the C System 3.5 at home. The Lion is much more indicative of the kind of ball these lightly oiled wood lanes require.
Bowled 5 release styles using 5 balls. straight up 3, straight up 5, straight up 10, inside shot, and Texas Twister (my name for helicopter).
I am happy to report that of the 2 helicopter games I threw, one had 7 strikes and scored 208, making two times in a row that I've thrown 2 helicopter games and one of them was 200+. (Left the 1-2-5-9 one time. never saw that with a hook shot! (it might have been 1-2-5-8; not sure....))...
Messengers come from the left and the right with the helicopter shot I use. Not on the same shot, of course. The head pin either goes left or right, and takes out a few pins after bouncing off the wall (which, for some reason, seems to be called the kickback plate).
On the hook shots, I was able to use speed, axis changes, and rev changes (fingers) to adjust shots. This is a small breakthrough, as previously I've always spent most of my time battling thumb and span issues (due to all my balls being different).
I used 1 ball with 3/16 reverse pitch and 3 with 0 pitch, all with equal finesse-ability. Plus, of course, the standard-grip plastic for spares and Texas Twister. Ball weights varied from 14 to 16 pounds.
avg 164.5 over 12 games, mainly because not all the lines worked. (!!!!). I think I might finally have the answer for wood lanes - no big hooks (not for me, at least). I can rev the ball all I want, but only on the oil, not on the dry. (Not that I always revved it today - I varied from maybe 200 to masybe 400 revs (just a guess)). I added revs two ways - by cup/uncup and by finger flipping (make a fist).
Another thing I did, just as a lark, was throw a reactive very fast with 90 degree axis rotation at the 3-9-10, and actually picked it up. This is an accomplishment, as you would expect the shot to veer left of the pocket, but the fact that I kept it right of the 3 pin and actually hit the 9 and 10 pin with it shows the control I was able to accomplish on many shots today.
As mentioned yesterday, I picked up several spares with my Texas Twister to day, and on the other attempts usually got 9 pins.
At any rate, long story short - I had a blast!
