Hey. This is a great site. This is my first post. As far as the type of bowler I am, I am a right-handed power stroker. My average is currently about 160 (but moving up). My equipment is a 15lb.
Track Arsenal Angular Particle and an
Ebonite plastic ball
for spares. The
Track is drilled to go long and hook
hard on the back end. I just finished my league night. I ended up with scores of 208, 137 (bad game. too many splits!), and 170. In my 208 game, I had the opportunity to turkey in the 10th for a 240, but a blown 10-pin prevented that.
Any way, now for my question. I was practicing in a house the other day whose lanes had a lot of oil on the back ends. My shots were hitting very light, sometimes missing the head pin entirely. I
tried moving a little more outside (about 5 boards to the right), but then all my shots went Brooklyn, leaving some very odd looking messes up there. My normal line has me standing at board 25 on the approach (I use a 4 step delivery) and sending the ball over board 15 and breaks at board
8. I figured my low scores while practicing at this particular house were due to the condition. I went to another bowling alley in town, used the same line and started busting off 4 and 5-baggers.
I bowled 4 games and averaged about 190 at the other house. They had just put fresh oil down. The back ends were dry so I got a hard pin-crushing hook. Any way, anybody have some tips for when back ends are oily?
