Hi All,

Attached is a video shot of my form. I have been pushing to not drop the ball at the line and it seems that in this video I did not but I would appreciate any feedback. It seems that once I find the shot, I am pretty consistent but once the lanes start to break down and I am out of my comfort zone, I struggle with moving. I try the two with my feet and one board on the lane but then I find my elbow getting away from my body trying to reach my new target. Any suggestions

From the video of one shot, I don't see any of the issue you mentioned with the elbow thing.

I can see where the dropping the ball at the line might be coming from. Your finish position is a bit taller than it probably should be, because you are coming up a wee bit at release. Try maintaining your forward lean until you've completed your follow-through. This shot wasn't bad but if you pop up while the ball is still on your hand you are going to have the problem you mentioned.

B Fury, you posted this in the Virtual League forum when it should've gone in the Videos forum...being a mod in the VL forum, I was able to move it, however. smile

1) In your setup the ball height is just under your chin.
Tommy Jones setup is much lower

2) You push the ball straight out(still chin height)
Tommy Jones hinged pushaway, his elbow stays close to body

3) You have too much weight on your back foot.
Watch Doug Kent trail foot.

Wow, you are right. Since I am tall, I have always had the problem of "popping up" which leads me to pull the ball. I will try what you said and see how I roll. Thanks so much for your input.

Spr3wr,

Thanks so much for the videos. I will have to practice the lower starting position. The article was fantastic. I will take another video at the lower address position and get back to you. I watched the Doug Kent video and I have a question. How does he keep the weight off of his back foot. I don't seem to have the proper balance when my trail leg is extended behind me. Is it something in my delivery?

Hi All,

I try the two with my feet and one board on the lane but then I find my elbow getting away from my body trying to reach my new target. Any suggestions

B Fury

This is the way I setup my body in my stance.
85% of the time I have the center of my body (right handed bowler)facing the 10 pin. If I'm standing on any board left of 15 then my body is pointing towards the ten pin. This will set my hips in at a certain angle to keep me towards my target. The more left I go then the more I open up my hips because I'm still facing the 10 pin. The other 15% of the time my left foot is facing the 6 pin. This happens when the lanes are oil outside or if I am standing on any board 14 or less.
This is MY OWN way of setting up in the stance. To find your own personal line 1st play your favorite line example : lets say board 20 out to 10 at the target. Once you have lined up and your getting the ball to the pocket, then in your stance set your body. Just before your ready to start your approach stop.Take notice of where the center of your body is facing. If you took a line from the center of your body all the way to the pins what pin are you facing? You may notice that you are facing outside of the pins. That's OK its your stance.NOW here comes the easy part when you move keep the center of your body facing the same spot at the end of the lanes. This will keep your arm inline with your target.

Nothing is wrong will your delivery . You just have to shift more weight to your slide foot. Its hard to tell from the back view ,but maybe slide your hips forwards a little Practice this drill, notice her trail foot.

spr3wr,

You have given me so much to work on! I shot last night and shot a 746 Series (269,248,229) using you center technique. I found myself in control of my shot all night. I tried to stay down on my shots and keep the weight off of my back foot. (I guess I will work on your drill for the trail leg) but I was able to move left and still throw and effect shot. Clean all three games! I still was holding the ball high as I tried in warmups the lower address and didn't feel comfortable. I will try it though when I practice over the weekend. Thanks for helping. I will video some of my practice shots and send them. Thanks again.

Nice job on the series. In regards to holding the ball. You don't need to hold it as low as Tommy Jones does. Chris Barnes holds it much higher than Jones and he has done pretty well on tour. I hold the ball around my right chest muscle. Lower than you do but higher than Jones.
