hi bryant.
Had a look and for what i know u have "fast feet".
Your pushaway starts when u take your 2nd step in your 4 step delivery.
I would focus on pushing away just after your foot touches the floor on the 1st step.
That way your timing will get better and u will get more lift and revs on the ball.
Someone pls correct me if i saw it wrong.
Heck...ur 14..u will get it right smile

Nope, I saw it the same way. Late timing. Start moving your left arm a split second before you take your first step.

Me too, started the ball moving way too late for a 4 step approach.

Plus balance was almost there, but the "posting the shot" idea was not. Again I agree that it appears to be a problem with fast feet. You really don't need to run up to the line. A good trial of "the one step" drill should get that idea in place.

But something else that I noticed was that your body never really closed up. Your shoulders remained open and dropped through the release/finish. I'd have you look at closing up your finish position and not quite so much shoulder drop. This would also be helped by getting lower to the foul line by a deeper knee bend. You'll gain a better leverage position. Lower at the hips, not the waist or shoulder. Though I know the modern game has the shoulder dropped a bit.

Good trail leg going. Good speed and your balance is almost there. Little bit of spraying of the ball, and I'm sure that's from the fast feet and trying to turn the ball too much. Slow down and your targetting should get much better. Biggest hurdle, I think, is going to be slowing your feet down. You really don't gain much ball speed from that. Rather you gain ball speed from your pushaway and height of your backswing, all generated through a free arm swing which I think you have done GREAT. Fantastic free armswing at the release.

Thanks guys,
I posted this video in another forum too, and some people said if I switch to a 5 step approach, that would fix the timing problem. Should I do this? Also what do you mean by "posting the shot"? I've heard this before but never really understand what it meant.

Thanks again

Any more comments??

Posting the Shot, means that once you release that ball, you have done so with absolute authority (no matter how fast you throw it) and remain absolutely still (except perhaps the free arm swing residual movement).

I don't really think a 5 step approach is going to fix your timing. I think starting your first step (4 step approach) with your first movement of your ball will. Think of your ball and toe of your starting foot as being connected with a string and keep the string straight up and down. If you try to go to a 5 step approach, I think all you'll do is have two non ball moving steps. Plus starting on the opposite foot after years of doing it the other way, can be very difficult to learn.

Here’s more on Posting your Shot. Its written by Susie Minshew for Bowling This Month (a magazine that I think every one on this forum should subscribe to). Feb 2004 to be precise. Its one of her NMW ; no matter whats.

“Posting your shot is defined as holding your position at the line until the ball falls off the pin deck. Depending on your ball speed, that’s going to be between two and three seconds. Not so much to ask, huh? Like the follow-through, posting your shot will knock more pins down. Besides it gives you the opportunity to stare them down should they dare to stand and also to see all those good shots you’re making.”

“Posting your shot can do a lot or things for you, actually. It emphasizes being still and stable at the line (everything but your bowling arm) and it encourages balance, since you can’t be stable unless you are (balanced). If you are not falling off the shot, it’s surely a lot easier to hit your target the way you intend to hit it.”

“In order to really finish the shot, you need to stay with it. If you’re at the ball return by the time the ball hits the pins, you’re not claiming your effort. Pretending you don’t know who threw that shot seldom works. If you accet that falling off or turning away quickly from the shot is okay, you’ll begin to do so earlier and earlier. Any excuse will do. You know you made it, you know you didn’t, you’re embarrassed, you don’t want to make anyone wait, you only need another jack for a straight flush, whatever.”

If that's really a Yellow dot I wouldn't expect much more action out of it.I Use one for a spare ball.
That done here is a tip given to me years ago...I think Earl Anthony was the first real user.
Make sure your slide foot is pointing dead straight or slightly out at the line. This will bring all the hip front and shoulder muscles in proper line. You will get a lot more lift automatically and your slightly late timing will improve.
Actually I think today most of the power guys are technically a bit late but they don't slide like we used to in days of old. It's more plant and shoot today.
Make a shot and look down where your left foot is. It needs to be in the same place every time or you will be all over the place.
Just my $.02

Hey Erin, thanks for the quote on "posting the shot". I think I'm going to have to start doing that more often. When I do, I seem to shoot better, I just never knew it was an actual "technique". I always do it just so I have a chance to look at my finish positioning.
