Finally put three good games together in a series last night in the Thurs. league:

278-211-234 = 725

This is the first 7 of the season so I hope there's more to follow.

Monday league was so-so just shy of average:

236-211-197 = 634

Another so-so week for me. 210-212-193, 615. 11 weeks in and I still haven't broken a 650 yet. I'm not bowling terrible, but I just can't seem to get anything going. This is getting old.

167, 176, 175 - 518 series.

Was trying to muscle the ball wayyy too much last night. I'm very calm a throw a pretty smooth ball all week during practice, then when monday night came around, started throwing way to hard, which left a lot of balls missing the pocket. Also had 2-3 opens per game.

We won all three games tonight and overall. Other team had identical handicap, which basically made it a scratch night.

So, is this why I hate handicap leagues? I get to the lanes late and had to rush to catch up 3 frames. Start O - X O, and finish with a O in the 10th. The rushing and lack of a practice shot really caused trouble for a 176. But, I finished 226 and 235 for a decent series.

Now the story. We bowl head to head in this league. My 201 average at 90% of 230, gives me a 26 pin handicap. I look up at the scorer and am shocked to find that my opponent has a 81 handicap. 81!!! I am giving him 55 pins per game.

That's not the worst. He shoots 197 for his highest game in league and a 278 with cap. Naturally, I lost. Then, he proceeds to roll his highest game again with a 217 plus 81, or 298. I lost that too. My final game was 265 and just beat him with his 250. He shot about 830 with cap to my 69X. I won 1 head to head point. Cheesh.

Some days you get the bear, some days the bear gets you. We have a real cross section of teams in our 3-person Wednesday league, one team has an average handicap of 85 per player so you really have to play catch-up. Our team averages about 35 handicap per player, but we are about average (sorry, pun intended) for the league. There are about 15 bowlers with 10 handicap or less, out of roughly 70. Occasionally you will get burned with a high handicap player having a good night (I know, I've done it too... not intentionally, though, other than trying to bowl the best game I can.)

Guess the difference is, when the bear gets me... I won't worry about it any more.

This still bothers me.

I know the feeling. I bowled against our lowest avg team this week and got SLAMMED. A: I bowled horribly. . . which is bad itself and gets to me. . . but B: EVERYTHING they threw carried. . . four of the five shot over 600 (with handicap) instead of their more typical 540-560 (which is what I could expect with handicap) they picked the evening they bowl me to have four of them bowl their best night all season. . .

sigh.

I've been mulled and pawed by the handicap bear many times in the past. I still think it's a lot easier for a 150 average bowler to bowl 50 pins over average than it is for a 200 average bowler to do so. There's got to be a better way to scale the handicap system.

Anyway, I shot the best 623 series I ever had last night in league: 214-193-216. One open in the second game which was a pocket split for a 29 clean series. One of those nights where I felt good, mostly in the pocket, but just couldn't take out the corner pins. Any adjustments I made just left other single pins such as 4 or 9 pins.

The carry bear clawed me a bit keeping me slightly under average series wise. The good news is our team won 5 out of 7 points, I was pleased with my spare game, and no animals were harmed in the process.
