Has anyone used the oval thumb inserts that are on the market?

If so, how do they compare to just widening the slug that's in the ball?

How are they installed?

Are they all the same outer width?

Sorry for the barrage of questions, but I am getting a new ball and refitting my grips and thumbs on the rest of my equipment and I am very interested in the opinions of more informed consumers.

I am partial to thumb slugs and then having an oval hole custom drilled or worked into the slug. The main reason I like the slugs is the texture - I only use urethane slugs which give me the best feel. I find that the oval inserts are much smoother and I don't feel as comfortable with them.

I would suggest that you talk with your Pro Shop and have them check your hand (skin texture, moisture, etc) and then let you feel a drilled slug versus an insert. Only YOU can decide which feels the best to you.

Also, if you choose one or the other, you can always make an easy change without spending a lot of money.

I actually like the oval thumb inserts. When my thumb is oval in shape, so it fits perfectly.

I have slugs in my balls now and I like the feel, it's just that I am curious to see if the inserts are easy to change out when it's time to do that. I am in the process of losing some weight and I can already feel a big difference in my thumb. I know the inserts are less expensive and if they are easier to change out, I can do them at home without having to spend ridiculous money at the Pro Shop for them to redo the slugs every 3 months.

The inserts are a bit easier to change out. Most times they have to be drilled out. And if you can pry them out without drilling, they seem "distorted" and feel funny if used again. I mean in a pinch, they can be reused.

Why do you have slugs redone every three months?

I use the oval inserts. I tried others; slugs, exactacations but the inserts just feel the most comfortable to me.

Personally, I think the Exactacation is the way to go to get every single thumb hole identicle. But my skin had a reaction to the material, so I stopped using it. Other then that, they are great. And if you have about 3 made ahead of time, if you area travelling you can always buy that spur of the moment deal and have your thumb hole ready to go.

Are you talking about the removable thumb inserts? The ones that you twist in and out? Like the switch grip by Turbo 2-in-1?

got a question.

when ordering oval thumb inserts, they only specify one size. So if my oval thumb is 7/8 by 1 1/16, what size insert do I need to order? 7/8 or 1 1/16?
