Just rolled my first-ever 600 in league, which also included a personal record high single. Many of you are responsible for this. When I can't see my coach, the suggestions are every bit as helpful as the coaching available in my area.

...seriously, though, I shouldn't have shot 629. I have never broken up so many splits in my life. My middle game included a 4-9 that miraculously became a strike (a first for me) and a caved-in 2-4-5-8-10 (another first). There was also a trip 7-10 in there somewhere. The Freeze is a freight train if I execute properly. This site is helping me figure out how to do that as much as anything or anyone.

(Edit: grammatical fix for a sentence that made no sense. I write well English good. nut)

After league play I stayed to work on the same lanes we bowled on for league. I have a problem recovering and adjusting when the lanes go away after the 1st game.

181-165-131-158-168-143/946,158avg. The scores don't tell the whole story, I was working with the Cool Noize some to see if I should switch to that after the 2Furious stops working, but the jury is still out on that. I may take it down to 1000 grit next time I have it resurfaced. And still trying to fire the uDot straight down the lane to pick up some spares.

The #5/168 was the swan song for the [censored] Weber All-Pro, it is now officially in retirement. It did go out with a strike, though! Bowled it straight off the 2nd arrow, just like the good old days. Boy, you get that in the pocket and it crushes the pins!

I got 6 games in today. 2 with the Raging Inferno, 2 with the Hammer Hawg Wild, and 2 with the Tropical Storm. I averaged 185 for the day. I think the TS is going back in the bag and I'll bring back the Zone . I've realized that unless you throw the ball real hard, you can't use the outside....so I've gone back in(standing 30-34 and hitting 15-18 at the dots). I'm getting a better reaction at the pocket and I'm starting to carry more strikes. I still can't tell where the oil is(I think it's 15 in, but don't quote me), so I guess I'm going to have to have someone with better eyes spot for me.

Tossed 9 games today. 4 in practice this morning in the center where I bowl Wednesday league.

159-194-247-213. Took me all of game 1 to figure out I was playing the wrong area of the lane. At the start of game 2, I moved from 18-out-to-9 to 14-straight-over-the-first-arrow and stayed there for the rest of the session. Game 3 would be a record were it in league, and it included my first-ever 6-bagger. Games 3 and 4 were clean.

The center where I bowled a Sunday two-thirds-season league last year is hosting weekly king-of-the-hills this fall before the league starts. Bowled in that tonight. We were playing a reverse block, which I had never seen before.

155-177-206-158. Funny how only the game I bowled on a pair where I could actually slide was the only game where I was consistently able to avoid the out-of-bounds area outside of the 9 board. crazy On two of the three pairs we were using, no one could slide even an inch, including my coach, who I actually defeated scratch in game 2.

With the help of my rather generous cap from my cruddy average last season, I managed a +221, which put me in the tournament leader position...and I tossed a 197 in the title game to take it down. thumbsup

Only trouble was spare shooting. I left the White Dot at home and wished almost immediately that I hadn't. This was the freshest, and most, conditioner that I've ever bowled on -- the center oiled the lanes we used about 10 minutes before we started warm-up -- the Blue Hammer '01 did all manner of strange things that I'm not accustomed to watching it do on the broken-down second-shift shot I normally tackle.

All in all, a good day on the lanes. smile

I bowled yesterday afternoon at the center where I usually practice. They know me there, and I get a preferred rate to bowl. I generally just pay after I bowl for the number of frames the machine records for me.

Well, there is a new policy that I now have to prepay for bowling. So, at $1 per game, I paid $4. I was assigned a lane right in front of the desk, as there were plenty of open lanes, and that was fine.

In mid first game, the desk assigned a family with little kids immediately to my left. I gave the desk guy a stern look. Why put them right there when there were at least 13 other lanes open? He knows when I practice, I take time and really focus. Having a bunch of kids on the approach or running in front of me wasn't what I wanted. Then, a game later, he put a bunch of teens to my right. You know, the roll between your leg types. And, the boy fooling around with the girl on the approach. He just had to grab her ball in the back swing.

Well, that upset me even more. And, another stern look went to the counter. In fact, I made a comment, to which the desk guy responded, you only pay a buck. They are paying $3.99 per game. You can't complain.

Bottom line, I quit after 3 games, even though I paid for 4. And, this actually made me happy. Because, although they can charge me in advance, they cannot give me a refund for my over payment. And, the desk guy went through all kind of girations to make the computer system give me a refund. The more frustrated he became, the happier it made me.

I added to his frustration by complaining about his placement of those bowlers to my side. And, I thanked him for his treatment toward regular bowlers in the house.

Bottom line, he asked me if I would accept a Free Game Coupon instead of the refund. That is when I pointed to a sign on the wall that read something like, "if you are dissatisfied with our service, your bowling is free". I forced him to give me 4 free game coupons or take another 10 minutes to figure how to give me a refund. You see, with him on the house computer trying to figure this refund out, there was a line of customers forming behind me who were also getting upset.

Don't know what I bowled. I got satisfaction in frustrating the desk guy. But, I got 4 free games.

Many Centers just don't care about the serious bowler any more. They just go for the bucks.

I feel your pain, Dennis. I always ask them to 'put me where the kids aren't' when I request a lane or two, and usually they accomodate me, but there are only 24 lanes in our house and, inevitably, they put The Kids or The Teens next to or even within a lane or two of me.

They do know me so I don't suffer the indignity of having to pay first, and, depending on who's behind the counter, I usually get a decent rate.

Maybe my next house will have a private bowling lane... (yea, right!)

Ha, I also made another point. Yes, I got 4 free game coupons. But, since I was only out a buck, I gave the coupons to another person standing in the line that I caused. So, the house lost those games at $3.99 each, too.

Quote I recently read: "Don't mess with older people, they don't waste time arguing, they just shoot you".

Had the whole place to myself this afternoon... at least for a while. 173-195-170, 538/179avg. Also bowled 3 other games working on the played out oil with both the 2Furious and Cool Noize and some different techniques. Still leaving some solid 10-pins and an occasional 5-pin. Think I'll have the ball resurfaced at 2000 and polished up for league Wednesday. Maybe I can carry a little better if the ball isn't gassed out by the time it reaches the pocket.

After struggling for a week in the high 120's I had a 4 game average of 151 and a high of 179.
