Well the center looked pretty full tonight. My friend who stepped down from the team to allow someone else to bowl on the team still found a team with someone he knows so that worked out.

As for my bowling, this is the full story. I had games of 226, 159 and 255 for a 640 series. The second game I had 6 good shots the whole game, 5 for strikes with three of those in the tenth and one was a ringing 10 to start the game, the first and only one of the season.

We split the 4 points. First game we won scratch much less with the 90 pins of handicap we received. Second game things turned around, my 159 didn't help nor another bowler that bowled 40+ pins over average and the other team had a couple bowlers get going. Last game we were up for a good bit of it, but then a couple of bowlers on my team dropped off. The fourth bowler had his ball get stuck in the pit and it chipped around the finger inserts some and caused the inserts to move, or so he says and had to use his stronger ball which he didn't really throw right anyways. The third bowler, well this was his eighth game in a year and half so he is still trying to get back into the swing of things plus he had something happen to his back at work yesterday. We still had enough to take total though, this after sweeping all four points last week.

Well.. Sunday's two leagues came and went uneventful enough as far as the final scores go.

Afternoon... 215 190 251- 656
Evening... 214 196 240- 650

Afternoon was a bit more choppy... as I had at least four throwaway balls for strikes during the series that were incredibly offtarget including one gutter ball. It was a horrible combination of improper release and my arm flying way high. Yet they were singular events, so overall I was able to bounce back... but just odd. Early season rust I guess...

Evening was ordinary, lots of 7 pins... made 7 out of 8 seven pin conversions.. so happy for that so early in the season.

Give myself an A- for hanging in their mentally.. C+ for the overall swing. smile

Cheers!

This is the week I have been waiting for. I start bowling league Thursday the 9th, and I'm pretty geeked for the season to start. Next week I get into the season full bore when my Wednesday league starts as well.

My house resurfaced the lanes over the holidy weekend, and I have not picked up a ball in almost a week. I would like to get in a few practice games before we start and see how the new surface plays, and see just how slick the approaches are after the resurfacing. I should be able to get in a few games in the mornings since I have some time now.

Anyways good luck to all this year...let the games begin!

Monday classic week 1 scores: 183, 167, 219 for a 569 series. 2-1 in match play, team won. alot of carry down, it took me till the third game to figure out that hard and straight down the middle was the only thing that would work. I am stuck being the anchor again. hope to rebound next week. I will wait and see how I do in my wednesday league before posting virtual league scores, then I will chose which league to use.

Tonight's bowling, frame-by-frame (Links to series sheet on BowlSK)

Except for the first game, this was not how I imagined starting the new season. Most of my problem was leaving splits (nine total on the night), but I wasn't helping myself missing the easier two-pin cluster type spares, either. Except for a miss of a 6 pin, I was good on my 5 single pins, and polishing my spare ball back up seemed to help on those.

I'm going to start tracking my average (including last 9 games after Week 3) and what I need for my AVG+1 the next week in here...

Result: 201-127-147=475
Average (3 games): 158
Next week's AVG+1 score: 479

As near as I can tell from the recap, my team swept the points first night from a team that included my buddy Rob. Everyone had at least one game over average, with John really picking it up in his last 2 games and Eileen chipping a 175 second game for her high game on the night.

198-168-154 = 520. Two things struck me as weird.

a) This is a trios league. My 2 teammates from last year are cousins. They told me on banquet night that they would be booting me off the team so that one of their brothers, who was moving to the area, could join them. As for the new team on which I've been placed...the other 2 people both forgot the season started tonight as opposed to next week. nut Not surprisingly, I got buried.

b) This is also a second-shift league. Since I was rolling every shot with basically no hook at all last season, I didn't understand what kind of havoc a dried-out shot can play. The Freeze was hooking for me about twice as much as I expected -- by game 3 I was playing 22, trying to hit the 2nd arrow and trying for a breakpoint out around 5 board. Having never tried this line before in my life, I couldn't strike.

Edit: I'd never tried anything inside of 20 because, with fairly weak equipment, bad ball fit that caused my middle finger tremendous pain and too much ball speed, I'd have ditched every shot. seeingstars

I also have retired the White Dot because the weight differential was really beginning to throw me off from one shot to another. Used the Blue Hammer '01 to shoot my spares tonight. Being not used to a spare ball that will hook, I missed a couple of 4-pins and chopped through a 6-9-10 when the ball overhooked crazy , but I got it to settle down after that. It also really helped my Execution w/the Freeze out too -- lot fewer pulls than usual.

Haa, haa! Week 1: 216-170-183 for 569/189avg, 15 over last season's average. As has been par for the course since lane resurface... good first game and struggle with the 2nd and 3rd games. Lots of carry down on the new lanes, moved 5 boards right and then back 2 boards left of center trying to keep up. Sped the ball up to 16mph in game 3 and got it to go back into the pocket.

Our anchor bowled like crap tonight so we probably wound up 10 for 20 after the handicap is figured in. Gonna be a long season... crying

Well, we started Fall Wed night with 3 of the 5 new bowlers. And, just before I went to league, I got a call from our No. 5 man. Seems he has been laid off, and doesn't think he will bowl. So, the economy takes another one.

So, we bowled with a vacant. 2 are bowling for average, as was the entire team against us.

I haven't calculated handicaps from last night (90% of 230) to see if we won any games.

I started the year by missing a 4 pin in the first frame, then picking the 8 from a 2-8. The oil across lane was brutal. Finished the game with a solid 4-9 in the 10th for a sterling 158.

I followed with a 230 and a 202. So, a hapless 590.

Yep - I got the shine off right away too. Opened up with a strike, two splits, then missed a 7 pin for a lovely 156.
