My Storm baseball has been in my bag since, WOW, I just looked up when it was released by Storm, January 2001! I got one soon after they came out, so I've had the same one for over 9 years now. I've had the pitches changed, slug replaced, grips installed, and I've resurfaced it a few times. I sanded it up to 4000 (500-1000-2000-4000), then polished it with 3M Finesse-it, which I believe has no grit in the polish, so it went dead straight. I stopped cleaning or reshining it when I went to bowling on strictly synthetics, since they don't wear a track in a ball like wood did. Works like a charm, and I'll keep it until it breaks in half. There are a lot of cracks around the thumbhole, but they're not having any effect on the ball.

So, if you have one you like, no need to change!

Mine is also about 3 years old now. I bought an Ice Storm as soon as it came out. It is one of the hardest spare balls made, and it has actually stood up very well. I keep it polished with Storm X-Tra Shine.

If anything happens to that, I have a very old Manhattan Rubber ball that will become my spare ball. My driller hated me for it, but he did plug and drill it for me. Those things go straight nowadays, and will probably last forever. Sometimes you can find them for a couple bucks at garage sales, flea markets, Goodwill stores or places like that. Get one of those, and you'll most likely never need to buy a spare ball again.

I hear ya Dennis. Had the same problem. Went ahead & plugged/re-drilled mine and has held up for the last year and a half. So far, so good.

Only thing that I hate about the wood lanes, a tracked up spare ball. livid

I have had the same spare ball for 7 years now. Got it in my first league (ball bag shoe league). It has been great, only one small nick. I am changing soon, it is 14 and I have been bowling 15 strike balls for almost 5 years now. It has not seemed to be much of an issue, but since everything else is 15 and storm is about to release the Team Storm white I am going to get it. Better to spend the money on strike balls, or at least its more fun to buy a new strike ball than it is a straight shooting spare.
