It's called "Humble Pie", isn't it?

That's what I got bowling on the Shark tonight. I actually had a decent first ball, but I missed all too many spares. Infact, the second game saw 4 strikes and 7 9-counts. So, I was close. But, you don't score when you miss 2-10 pins, a 7 and a 5.

184-178-156-179

I also found that the new 15# balls are not even close to my Dynamic Power on this shot. I as forced to move far right, and up 7. I had no back end power that I got from my DP.

I shot 12 games last night, and it seems I get better near the end of a long block. I think it's because I get tired and have to concentrate more on the fundamentals, timing, and a proper slide. (I'm working on losing the bad habits that come from rushing the line and trying to muscle the ball.) My eighth game was the first clean game ever, a 207 with four strikes and six spares. Game 10 was a 200 that I had to work for (opened in the 8th to a 140 and strung four to finish it off), and my last game was a 194 with a xx9 in the tenth.

I'm just a 140-or-so bowler six weeks into a comeback from a very long layoff (and most of my other games last night were in the 130-155 range) and all I want is to improve my game and be consistent.

Not a bad start to the summer league thus far considering I am at 247.8 average after 6 games.

Fist day of Senor league was today. Supposed to start at Noon.
Got to the lanes to find 32 lanes, full of kids. Somehow, the local schools had a bowling outing on this, the final week of school. And, they expected to stay til 1. Needless to say, there was a discussion withthe House Manager, who is only 4 days on the job.

His response was to have a league meeting for 30-40 minutes, while other workers cleared some of the kids off the first 10 lanes. At the end of our meeting, we were assigned team numbers and lanes.

When we gotto ours, the lanes were not oiled. There were house balls in the rack. Popcon all over he floor. The tables had cups, plates and soda spills all over. It was not pleasant.

The lanes, being used by probably 10 house ball throwing kids, were horrible. I could barly keep my spare ball on the strike side.

Needless to say, 194-178-176 was taken, but not enjoyed.

I took the munchkin bowling today (my oldest daughter). My wife signed her up for the Kids Bowl Free for the summer. I took today off to see the doc and got her from school early. I took my VE to the lanes and my Natural. I was pleasantly surprised to find that they had oiled for the sport league on my lanes. I think that he said that it was the Chameleon. I have been thinking that I want to change the surface of my VE to 4000 and after today, I really want to. It was a little jumpy but not bad. But, I think that it would smooth out the ball a touch. I shot 190, 210 (Kids Bowl Free is 2 games a day). I liked the results. I tried my Natural for 1 shot. I tried 8 to 5 and left a washout. Last time I tried that ball for my strike ball. I was playing around 15 at the arrows out to 8 at the break. I had a little room inside and a little outside. Not much though. I left (4) 10 pins and picked them all. Overall, very happy with how I bowled. Only the 3rd time out with 15 pound equipment. On top of that, my daughter had an absolute blast.

Side note: Had a great thing happen while bowling. The guy who drills my stuff was there working with a couple of HS kids. They walked down to our end of the alley and he was trying to show them that you don't have to heave your arm to get the ball to hook. He had them watch a guy to my left who was a no-thumber. He said: Watch where his fingers are at the release. The guy threw an okay shot. Then, I was getting up and he asked me to hold up. He told them to stand behind me and watch where my hand was at the apex of my swing and at the follow through. I threw my normal shot and he said: "If I could draw up how to throw a shot, stay low, stay smooth, not hit up on the ball, and still get revs on that ball, that would be it." My shot left a 10 pin so I went to pick it up. He had them stand behind me again. After I picked it up he said: "See, he didn't try to kill the pin. He just threw his normal shot with a weaker wrist." Made me feel good that he was using me as a guide for teaching kids.

Thanks UncleSalty. I know that I do a lot of things wrong. I also know that I do a lot of things right. For as big as I am (6'0" 240), I get a lot lower to the line that most people and I don't over throw the ball. I muscle the ball a bit in my back swing but not nearly as bad as I did years ago. My form is actually pretty good. One of these days I'll get a video up on here. With as long as I have been bowling, you would think I would have a decent approach smile
