I have learn a valuable lesson today regarding using of a wrist support.
History: I think I have accidentially shift the position from first to second hole on the wrist support during the last bowling session.
Tonight: Without knowing this, I did some bowl and guess what is my score ? 125-120-130... frown frown
my average at this moment is about 145..all my ball when to the 1-3 pocket or further down...Without realising my wrist supoort position, I tried to change my starting position, my hand postion etc but situation didn't improve.
After the 3 games, I decided to call it a day or night. After removing my support then I knew what went wrong brickwall
Lesson learn : From now onwards, I must always remember to check my wrist support before I do any bowling.
Thank for reading.....

Ace38,

Who was it who said, "The price of peace is eternal vigliance"? Same applies to bowling technology, I guess. Thanks for the sharing the hard lesson.

These wrist supports can shift position occasionally. The hinge lock on mine, which controls the lateral position of the hand support, loosened during a game when my son was trying the support. He had a couple of erratic shots before we discovered what was wrong.

The positive side of this changeability, though, is adustability. During practice yesterday, for example, I was having trouble finding a line that wasn't overhooking or underhooking (on dry boards vs. oil). I reduced the cupping setting of the wrist support by one notch, tried the dry line again, and threw 3 strikes in a row (would have been six, except for a solid 9 pin).

Next (practice) time out, I'm going to experiment with increasing the cupping to see if I can generate more hook on oil.

Susie Minshew advises that before the league PRACTICE starts that all of our equipment (Balls, shoes, wrist supports etc...) is to be checked. Even the bowling balls we do not intend to use must be check for proper fit, just in case. The lanes must be check prior to the start of practice. Finally, last but definitely least our bodies must be fully warmed up before league PRACTICE. Bowling is a sport and we are its athletes.

Susie Minshew is a Gold Level coach. She also writes several articles for magazines. She has a wealth of information and the talent to give to those who want it. One publication every one on this board should be subscribing to, is Bowling This Month. Susie Minshew has a monthly article in that magazine.

Not only have your balls ready and fit, with fresh tape if needed, but pay attention to your shoes. Make sure they are ready to go. No gum or stuff on the heels, soles in condition the way you like them. If your shoes are too worn, heels not level, then you are compromising your balance. Get a new pair or a new heel.

With regard to wrist supports - on balance I would say forget them, they are only good for those who have no other choice, perhaps due to injury or very weak wrists.

I recently ditched mine, and have gone back to locking my wrist without one. This gives you more control, more feeling, and more consistency (providing your wrist has the correct muscle memory).

I think the brace had a part to play in my slumping average throughout this, my first fall league.

Develop good habits early and minimize reliance on equipment - this simplifies an otherwise even more complicated sport!! worried
